what is worse is VAR didn't see it either and if they did see it,
then Darren England should not be allowed to referee again as he is a danger to the players out there

You said we did nothing but “ok” for 12-15 mins second half. However the play is going I’d say scoring in better than ok

VAR had plenty of time to look again at it but didn’t bother

Don’t immediately blame the referee as he can’t see everything that’s going on. But VAR, that is one of the reasons it’s supposed to be being used. No excuse at all for the incompetent VAR officials however.

    Just imagine if

    1. Gykores gets booked for diving and trying to cheat for a penalty.
    2. Gabriel gets sent off for hitting Big Nick
    3. A penalty is given for the handball on Elanga’s shot.

Also, anyone notice any significant decisions being missed which would have favoured Arsenal? I can’t think of any.

Also, also really pleased to hear what Big Nick said about not cheating following the attack by Gabriel. Others might not agree and say he should have gone down but for me it’s a breath of fresh air and he should be praised for what he did.

Your point though was we did ok for that time and ….. inferring we did worse than ok for the rest. A goal is far better than ok and our big penalty appeal was just before the end.

Another Premier League game and more debate over refereeing decisions are the focal point of what was an astonishing comeback win for Arsenal. However, it appears that officials are not fully aware of the rules in place, as evidenced by Dermot Gallagher's stance regarding Newcastle's penalty appeals, which fell on deaf ears.

The former Premier League referee spoke on Sky Sports' Ref Watch and analysed the incident by comparing it to a previous similar situation. He said, "This is a really interesting decision. This is after the one at Luton against Wolves where the (ball) struck the player's leg and hit his arm. Now the rule is if it strikes your body and flies up onto your arm, it's not going to be given because it's not possible to get out of the way.

Dale Johnson, a VAR expert has highlighted two clauses that mean the Magpies can feel rightfully hard done by. He told ESPN that the clause reads: "A very clear deflection that results in a significant change in trajectory of the ball should carry greater weight than arm position when considering a handball offence. However, touching another body part before contact with the arm does not automatically mean a handball cannot be penalised."

He said: "We shouldn't expect Gabriel to have his arm by his side, but it also shouldn't be as high as it was. So was there a "significant change in trajectory"?

Johnson concluded it should have been a spot-kick: "What might be in Gabriel's favour is he played the ball onto Elanga, which then diverted it onto his arm -- it wasn't a direct kick by the Newcastle player. This should be a penalty, but the deflection will mean that it won't be controversial."

Gillett's decision not to award a penalty for Gabriel's handball wasn't the only contentious call made during a feisty battle at St James' Park. Viktor Gyokeres went down after colliding with Nick Pope and the Australian official initially pointed to the spot before VAR intervened and suggested the English goalkeeper had got a touch on the ball

So, not just current referees are clueless about the Laws of Football ex referees are as well!!!

A goal and a penalty appeal doesn't mean we've played well though, not sure what you are trying to get at, they were better and deserved to win, i'll leave it at that.

Raya not being booked for persistent time wasting
picking up and not releasing the ball - the ref spoke to him on more than 1 occasion

Speaking Sky Sports' Ref Watch, Gallagher said: "I think he's lucky he didn't actually strike him properly, because where he's got lucky is is the referee hasn't seen it, it's gone to VAR and the VAR say red card or nothing, and it's decided it's not a red card. I don't think it's a red card, but I think if the referee sees it he's certainly going to get a yellow card."

More garbage from the ex referee. He struck him in the face. That is not a yellow card!!!

On a Serious note - those handball should NEVER be given. The rule exists to stop players using their hands in the game right?.. Smashing a ball from 1-2 metres away at a p[layer and expecting a handball decision is completely ****ing stupid. (Even though they sometimes are given)

Dermot needs to polish up on his homework or hang up his whistle for good
    as I pointed out earlier
    law 12

    VIOLENT CONDUCT

Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

Agree, if the defending player hasn't put his body in a spread/block type position, which it was in this case.

Plus even if you don't agree with the way the current Law is written it should still have been a penalty as prescribed by the current Law.

What I’m getting at is that a goal and a wrongly disallowed penalty don’t constitute playing less than ok which is what you were saying. Had we rightly got the penalty and scored their being “better” and deserving to win would have meant nothing. We’d have had at least a draw
