Newcastle seem to be getting the lions share of the decisions against Arsenal, but when you see Arteta constantly ****ing whining with a face like a slapped arse, you can understand why the officials don't want to give his team anything.

When you're unbeaten in 18 you can do what you like

Arsenal’s first goal was in the 85th minute. A fair result in the end as Arsenal dominated for much of the game.

I think he should be a great appointment, but he won’t be. Knives probably already out for him. It was the Man U plastic types that pressured him out of the England job in the first place, ****ing vermin.

If Southgate can take the best team in Europe and **** it up twice, what makes anyone think he can take the randomly assembled basket case that is Man U and achieve any sort of success?

Flip that on its head, he took the biggest basket case in international football and turned them into a functional team.

I was at the final with Italy and we should have won. We had the attacking talent that was as good as any, but as usual, sat back after scoring and played for a 1-0. That was our biggest lost opportunity. As you say, Spain where the best team on 2024.

I think Southgate did a brilliant job with England, but that Italy game is the one he got completely wrong, we definitely should have won and you don't get enough chances in a final to be allowed to mess up that opportunity.

I agree entirely, I think overall he did a good job, but I think he will regret that Italy game all his life. We took our foot off the pedal when we should have finished them off and you can't sit back for that long against Italy without them getting one.

The two Italian centre halves had a combined age greater than any twenty seven of the oldest posters on here. One of which had been yellow carded for a brutal foul.
That was when Southgate says to Kane, get on his case, wind him up, he can't touch you. So Kane promptly, did anything but. Doing his best to stay as far away as possible from the nutter, even turning up in the right back position.
You call it sitting back on a lead. I call it wimping out.

Should have, would have, could have don't count, though do they. Whether or not you are regarded as the "best" team in the competition, you have to go out and perform or you end up regretting it as England did in that final.
That said, I agree with OLM that Southgate was overall very good for England. Not sure we can take reaching the latter stages of tournaments for granted much longer - who's stepping into Kane's shoes when he retires from International football?
