We really need to start backing up wins. It was a massive part of the issue last season, so hopefully it doesn't carry on much longer. There's no way we should be this inconsistent.
I agree to an extent, but I think his positioning has been suspect for a few, he keeps getting beat at his near post and he has been flat footed for a few others. Aside from the goals conceded, he’s flapped at crosses and passed the ball out to the opposition. I’m not worried yet, but it’s always more noticeable when your most dependable player has a drop in form.
He had a very decent season last year, to be considered a very decent keeper you need to do it more than once. I’m sure he’ll bounce back, he seems to have the right attitude, he just needs to find some form.
You do not produce the performances he did as a GK last season without being a decent keeper, they weren't a fluke
And yet, after blootering a simple cross over to the far corner flag, he beat his man and got a great shot on target that Baxter tipped over the bar. Still can't decide whether he's just not up to speed yet or just not up to it.
I get the feeling with both that they may be more consistent if they were starting every game. But they aren’t/weren’t anywhere near first choice so just is/was never going to happen.
I'm not really up on this xG stuff but would the "faced the best quality shots in the division" point to the quality of the opposition or the lack of quality in our defence?
i think its neither you dont score multiple goals every season even in the turkish league, if you're not a ok level pro footballer and thats what akintola is he's never going to be consistent, he will never command millions in fees he will have great games and really bad games
Probably a bit of both. If we give opponents too much space in the box, they'll have more chance to aim for the corners, out of the keepers reach, but there were a couple of games where it felt like every slight mistake was punished.
I don't think Pandur's shot-stopping has been our problem at all. There was one against Blackburn where he palmed it out into the box for Cantwell(?) to score but I don't think he's been culpable for others, and even with that one we'd already been blown wide open down our left so he was far from the only one to blame. We do seem to get carried away with blaming keepers for goals in recent years. His distribution has always been a bit of an issue as part of our wider possession game, but that's a separate problem that's probably not easy to solve.
I don't think Pandur has been as bad as people are making out. I think a few goals have been down to poor defending, failing to pick up players from set pieces etc. Also, I think the only other decent alternative is currently playing for Hartlepool!
You’re right, stats don’t tell the whole story, I stand by my post & say I don’t think he was to blame for either goal.
Got a feeling it could be the latter....How many have we had over the past couple of seasons? Come in, look good for a game or two, then disappear...Traore, Lokilo etc..etc.
