If we'd beaten City, a draw at St. James Park would have been palatable. But drawing to City means we need to find a way to win this game. For all the talk about our worrying performances and team selections of late, for this one, I don't give a damn how we play so long as we win. This is one of those games where we need to get the 3 points by any means necessary and get out of there. Newcastle are a horrible team to play against and their cauldron of an atmosphere will make it really hostile circumstances. We shouldn't be looking to go toe-to-toe with them in terms of aggression and physicality because we will lose. We need to be looking at ways to outsmart and outplay them, kinda like how Barcelona did the other week, with technical players who can retain the ball and progress up the pitch.
Based on Arteta's presser, seems like Odegaard could be in contention to play in this one. I doubt he'll start if he is fit, so I'd assume he'll be on the bench.
Just his shoulder. He keeps injuring it when he falls - guy just needs to take Judo class and learn how to breakfall.
We can't afford to drop points against Newcastle, 5 pts off those jammy bastards already, 7 or more after 6 games would be a catastrophe.
Liverpool's loss to Palace (thank you Nketiah) means it'd be a huge weekend for us if we can win tomorrow. If we win away at a tough ground, at a time where Liverpool dropped points, we will be taken a bit more seriously. If we get a draw, we'd have made up +1 point, but it wouldn't be ideal and question marks would remain. A loss would mean we aren't serious and would need to earn the right to be taken seriously in the title race.
Last Season Newcastle were the only side to really outplay us in the league. Eddie Howe got it spot on (on more than one occasion). Hopefully Arteta has got the right tactical adjustments this time
We’re really so unlucky with injuries Havertz, Madueke and Jesus out leaves us with Martinelli the only really forward on the bench. Not including a 15yr old kid. Nwaneri not on bench. Injury?
Then we find ourselves 1-0 down completely against the run of play because Gabriel went down too softly from a set-piece. I can't believe we're losing this match, we've had so many chances and they've been so open. Will be criminal if we end up losing this. **** this cursed ground and fixture.
We missed our chances They didn’t. The pgmol chipped in to cheat and now we’re back to same old same old. Look like we could play all day and not score. 10points from 18. Not good enough.
VAR cheated and changed the game. We should be 1-0 playing against 10. Other way round it would be a penalty and red. Zero doubt. That said, Trossard and Gyokeres are ****e.
I know we can feel aggrieved from the being penalty overturned and conceding against the run of play, but our heads have gone since Woltemade scored. Levels have dropped. We need to get a stronghold of the game again. Get to half time at 1-0 and regroup.
We're letting them drag us down to their level, this is not an emotionally mature display from Arsenal. We need to wise up, carry on playing our football and not let these incidents completely disrupt our rhythm. The penalty overturn, missed chances and goal against the run of play shouldn't have affected us as much as it has. If we want to be taken seriously as title contenders, turn this game around and stamp our authority on the game.
