QPR loved him last season too, happy he’s made a statement to stay in the team today. I’ve had a bit of a soft spot for him since when we signed him after I heard the Peterborough chairman on Talksport. He was singing his praises and saying he really didn’t want to sell, but couldn’t turn the money down to reinvest. Made some bold claims about him being future England men’s starter etc - he looked great today, long may it continue!

Having seen the replay, the goal deflects off of the calf of the sliding leg of Wood, then up and over McCarthy. The problem is I don't think McCarthy thought it would/could do that and so wasn't set at all. Not a physical mistake, but definitely a mental one.

I had a guy a couple of rows behind me moaning at Edwards all game long - felt like I was watching a different game. I wanted him to get forward a bit more first half as he seemed to have a lot of room around him but that was it - definitely didn't need the tirade he was sputtering

That’s mad. The 3 CB’s all did well but Edwards stood out.

If I was Edwards I would love to play with Quarshie and Wood. Both absolute tanks and strong in the air, allowing him to get on with neat and tidy defending / moving the ball around.

It was nuts to be honest. "It's child play and you can't even manage it.", "just get it forward", "tippy tappy, tippy tappy", etc, etc.

There were some really good passes from him in the second half and it felt to me like he got freer in his game as it went on.

Maybe like Loading says having Wood and Quarshie around him gives him a bit of freedom to just get on with it.

For me it's the main go-to defence now as they've shown THB and JS up the last two games

Disappointed with the result, pleased with the performance.

We just need a bit of luck. If we were called Ipswich, we would have won today.

@Le Tissier's Laces , how was your Itchen experience?

Was there a lot of raucous exuberance overflowing into the surrounding plebians?

COMPLIMENTARY Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards insisted he believes Will Still is close to finding a winning formula with his new Saints side.

The two managers locked horns in the dugout at St Mary's on Saturday, but were forced to settle for a share of the points following a 1-1 draw.

Similarly to Still, Edwards was appointed at Riverside this summer, but his charges have made an unbeaten start to the Championship season.

Boro sit top of the division with 17 points from their opening seven games, while Saints are languishing in 19th with just seven points.
However, Edwards, who experienced Premier League relegation with Luton before going on to struggle again in the second tier, has seen positive signs.

"I can't speak for Will, I don't know him, but he's come into a big football club, it's hard to manage a relegation from the Premier League," he said.
"Trust me, I've been there, that side of it's difficult but they're looking for that winning recipe, which I don't think is far away.

"It was a really difficult game. I think you've seen how good they are. They're a really good team and they're in a false position at the moment.

"They have got a lot of good players and can score out of the blue. Adam Armstrong was brilliant today. He is a really, really good footballer.

"They have got threats everywhere, so, look, we respect the point at a very good club. Overall, we are satisfied with the day's work."

Edwards added: "I think we tried to do a lot of the right things in the first half, but we probably gifted them with three or four moments of our own doing.

"We gave them a little bit of oxygen and belief and probably raised the crowd a little bit as well. We cut that out in the second half.

"I thought we started the second half, dominant and we had a lot of control, and then they scored against the run of play with a really good finish.

"We are really pleased that we made some changes, including changing the shape a couple of times, and found a way to get a result."

Last season, Edwards was sacked as Luton boss in January with the Hatters hovering just outside the relegation zone in the second tier.

Luton would go on to be relegated to League One, becoming the first team to endure back-to-back demotions since Sunderland in 2018.

Good grief. He’s got to go. That’s not the Southampton way.
