Not the worse result.... On to Wednesday night against Oxford.... meanwhile, more cocktails to get through.... Cheers
Listen to us disappointed with an away draw, the timesthey are a’changing, I need to remind myself what I put in the prediction league, oh yeah 1-1, never wanted Luton to score a second before
Odd bits I saw, looked a ragged battling game. Good to see our boys more battle hardened and much less of being pushed around. Liked that JS rung the changes at half time, leaving the players with no doubt that you need to be on it or you’re getting subbed. As said a point away not too bad. Still nicely positioned in the table, need to get a home win on Weds.
neither team deserved the win, not a game to live long in the memory to be honest, both teams going into 3 game weeks and holding back a bit?
Just think we need to remember we’ve played a lot of the leagues poorer teams so far, hence my disappointment for a point.
Also how I saw it. Madsen (again) and Double-Barrel probably our best two. If he kept Burrell on we would have won, me thinks!
A first half that was totally empty. No rhythm, enthusiasm or pressure. Then they scored from a set piece and something had to change at half time. 3 subs were made and all the impetus was with us. A press, faster football and a penalty all day long. We should have won with some of our efforts to be honest but the game was constantly slowed down because the referee wanted to hear his own whistle. He ruined the game. Man of the match in my eyes was probably Norrington-davies. Saito always looks dangerous when given the ball aswell. Points dropped but at least Julien isn't scared to change it when it isn't working.
He’s perhaps over-thought it a bit. Or is rightly managing the game time. Frey was **** and the thinking was probably that SW would sit in and having two big lumps for that scenario made sense. Burrell links the play well and offers an outlet Slugger can’t. The positive, other than not losing, is Varane, Burrell and Vale should be fresh. But **** me that was a dire game overall even if we looked good for 15 minutes.
We had a good period in the 2nd half where we should have punished them but after that the ref just blew for anything, taking any momentum we had. Frey should have stayed on the bench in hindsight.
Yeah he did seem to give them an awful lot of soft free kicks. But they’re still effectively mostly a reserve team and we’ve forced little from the goalkeeper even if we went close a few times immediately after the goal. Maybe it turns out to be a bit of a blessing just as people were threatening to get over-excited. With the relegated teams not looking all that it does feel even more than usual that everyone is more or less as good/bad as each other. We’ve got a real chance to achieve something. We won’t of course but we have a chance.
We seemed content to play out a draw in the last 15 mins - pretty disappointing given that Wednesday are a weak side I thought Smyth was particularly poor - just didn't seem to want to want to fight for the ball in a positive manner, just gave away stupid free kicks, albeit the ref didn't need any encouragement as others have said
Not sure we can too despondent over this game. It was a very scrappy, as was the link I watched it on, and the ref didn't help. I think credit should be given where it is due, to Bannon who ran large parts of that match and can cross a ball better than most. Also Madson again had a good game and was always looking to play forward and a well taken penalty. For me Madson and Norton-Davis were our stand out players.
Of course, was hoping & probably expecting a win, to keep our momentum going but when it’s all said & done, we grabbed a point from an ordinary display, which isn’t too bad.
Draw! I was right! If you find yourself wandering along Warwickshire canals the Fleur de Lys, Tom O’Wood ad Durham Ox are excellent places to recharge your batteries even better when you have a support barge offering booze and food along the route.
