Just occured to me how many goals we've conceded from set-pieces this season. Fulham - conceded from a set-piece Spurs - penalty Stoke - penalty Everton - corner poorly defended, headed in Man City - two penalties Man Utd - free-kick bobbled around, deflected in Chelsea - throw-in poorly defended, results in goal Norwich - corner poorly defended, bobbled in. Corner poorly defended, headed in. Free-kick poorly defended, headed in That's 11 out of 18 goals in the league, so a whopping 61% of our goals have been conceded from set-pieces! Not including the Blackburn game in the cup, where 3 of the goals came from set-pieces. That must be one of the highest rates in the Premiership, so frustrating that these are goals that can be avoided by basic bloody defending. Sort it out Pardew!
Plus the other Norwich ones from free kicks...well at least one was from a free kick and i think another was a corner.
I think its cause Colo is a great defender from open play, but struggles from set pieces, same with Simmo and Raylor (and Perch) although Saylor is good there, it means we are basically playing with 1 good defender. The good news is that Willo is also good defending set plays.
I may be wrong but the commentator mentioned recently that we have conceded the most from set pieces in the league. I've never looked at our defending properly but there must be something wrong
We conceded 3 goals from set pieces with a makeshift defense, the throw in was when Coloccini was off the pitch, Man Utd's free kick was lucky. Some of the stats against us are really overhyped.
