I really really do not like the modern use of "mistake". Slipped into any apology and that'll be alright then because it was a mistake.... You can just hear the mealy mouthed politician caught bang to rights squirming and pleading "oh poor me it was a mistake" No it wasn't it usually is a number of completely intentional decisions. A mistake is an unintentional error, a misjudgement that has unintended result, and eroneus belief that something is true (if I remember correctly).
