I get that but I'm struggling to think of a goal conceded this season where he's had the opportunity to pull off a great save. Most of them he had no chance. I'm not saying Baz is an elite keeper, even in the Championship but he's our best option in the squad and he's nowhere near as bad as people make out.
See my later post, I agree he's been generally fine this season and don't blame him for any goal. We'll know more later in the season. I still think Alex is better but we're never going to agree on this one I don't think! Cue a massive Alex howler tomorrow night
Exactly. And no one wanted him near the starting eleven! Funny thing is, when he finished second top scorer in 23/24, he was well ahead of the big chances missed table too. Should have scored 30+ https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/leagues/48/stats/season/20721/players/big_chance_missed Scored when it mattered though.
An active striker will create their own chances, demanding the ball, making a run/space for himself, taking on a defender and so on. Adarma is really good at this; he's just pretty ropey with his finshing. A passive striker must wait for others to create chances for him. This is how I see Downes (from what I've seen of him so far). That's okay though, I imagine it's very common with young forwards. It's age and experience that helps them become more 'active'. He'll come good maybe later in his career. If he's a fast learner then maybe even next season.
Downs. Downs. Downs. For all our completely **** defending, and catastrophic goalkeeping, the one ingredient that has been missing in our team ever since the departure of Graziano Pellè is a striker who actually knows how to score goals. If we could start striking a bit of fear into opposition defences for a change, it would fill the whole squad with confidence. It may be too early to write Downs off, but he simply has to step up and start banging them in soon, or we will be faced with the prospect of trying to recruit a striker in January, the thought of which fills me with despondency.
Gabbiadini looked fantastic until he got injured but yeah we have lacked a proper center forward since Pelle, or at least one that had a "okay we're going to get a goal with him on the pitch" kinda feeling. But then I'd also argue we've lacked a proper Goalkeeper, proper Center back, proper central and defensive midfielders and proper wingers for years too.
True, but he was injured a lot too, just like Gabbiadini was. He also wasn’t a “knock down a high ball and use it” kind of centre forward.
I'd argue that last time around, ArmA was that player. Always thought we had a chance with him in the starting 11.
Yeah Ings certainly had his moments but as others have said, he was very injury prone - 7 injuries of 3 years and a total of 6 months out is not ideal for your main striker.
At the time he was pretty much our only striker who could score. How many of us would complain if we had Ings of then playing for us now?
