We done to those who did well. l seem to be doing squat. Kiwi continues to blitz with a solid effort. Of course, l’m a pathological liar and couldn’t lie straight in bed, which leads me to thinking l might have a career in politics!

I remember in the CCF in grammar school, us squaddies went up to the Lake District for a week of Arduous Training in rough mountainous terrain. First day we hiked a long way with our gear, set up tents for the night but there was a heavy rainstorm during the night so we woke up with streams of water running through our old fashioned army tents. So for the rest of the week we slept in a village hall, divided up according to our tent groups and living on Compo (canned) rations that came in heavy boxes, with occasional pub visits. We still did our hikes on the peaks but always returned to the village hall at the end of the day. On the train ride home (somewhere around Birmingham) we were notified that certain boys, who had performed "above and beyond" were designated as "Mentioned in Despatches". I was not one of them but we all received a light blue (Coventry) lanyard to attach to our battle dress lapels.
