I always had this down as a transition / recovery season after last year. I thought we'd have started slightly better than we have, mind, but certainly didnt think we'd be pissing the league like some seem to.
Jo Tessum has just written Downs off as not being good enough for this league. I thought we would need a season to rebuild but as starting to think this is a team with no confidence and will get relegated. More likely to be bottom three than top 6 , I think.
Yeah that was concerning. It reminded me of when we appointed Jones, and after the long WC break he said that he hadn't still watched all our previous games under Ralph that season. Poor.
The warning bells were ringing last week against the Skates, if they couldn't be motivated for that then I worry about the manager and the captain's influence.
No, he wasn’t very good either. We’ve been without quality Centerbacks a long time. The only one who had anything about him recently was Salisu and because he showed some quality obviously we sold him at the first opportunity. We’ve been crap at the back since we failed to adequately replace Fonte and that era and we went for and those that followed him.
No, you can't blame us for selling him. There's much you can blame us for, but not that. He was a slightly better behaved version of ABK. Nothing to do with ability, all to do with attitude, and he didn't want to be here, hence his mysterious run of injuries/illnesses etc.
Walked the wrong way on leaving the ground which hasn't helped my mood. Piss went through. Just need an accident on the M1 now to compound my misery.
Speaks fondly of the club, previous connection. Think he likely wanted to come here but was ****ed over by Sheff Wed owner.
Players not wanting to be here seems to be incredibly common recently. Again to me it just points to a now engrained club culture of players arriving expecting to be sold to better clubs within a year or two and then throwing a strop when it doesn’t happen.
Refusing to play doesn't tend to endear you to other clubs (unless you're Isak or Wissa). And we sold him to Monaco, who are a better club, so...
I want a year of stability and development of players. If we finish in or around the playoffs and develop the younger players and manager we have, that would be a good season for me.
Yes, all three goals were from weak defending in the air. Basic stuff. Instructions to a primary school AberdeenSaint Jnr was not to give your opponent an unchallenged header.
Just for fun. What are people’s player ratings? Bazunu - 5 Roerslev -3 Stephens - 3 THB - 2 Manning - 5 Charles - 7 Jander - 6 Azaz - 3 Fraser - 5 Fellows - 7 Downs - 4
Right now I'd settle for the following: 1. Demand that our CBs learn how to pass a ball, with pace, into the stride of whoever they are passing it to. Set tempo from the very beginning of a build up. 2. Demand that our midfielders attack the box with pace whenever we are crossing. 3. Once a ball is recycled from a cross, demand that it's put straight back in whilst the defence is still setting instead of fannying around with it, moving it around and allowing the opposition to reset. There's plenty wrong with what we're doing but these three in particular just leave me frothing at the mouth week in, week out. I believe that's a restrained and constructive criticism rather than what I wanted to type.
