The selection was and has been below the best possible all season. If there's a plus it's that we can all see Botman and Thiaw are about two leagues above schar and Burn, but how much longer will we need to see it before Howe changes it? Hall? Thiaw looks classy and composed mind. He will make a difference if he gets a run of games. I really hope we revert to Tino and Hall as full backs, but Eddie seems to have a love-in with Tripps. Even his overrated set pieces.
We have had to spend our way into this position. Barcelona have one of the most established and successful academies in the world and huge pulling power for players. We went toe to toe with them tonight and sure came up a little short but so might any side in the competition. We might have even taken something on a different night. Howe has been unbelievable for this club and done way more right than wrong.
We went through exactly the same ****ing thing last season with Howe trying to get Barnes in his side and the same thing with Lewis Hall. I don't think trying new things is bad, but going back to things that didn't work is really daft surely?
Barca's squad value must be mental. Whatever we have spent this summer, they have had decades of success behind them and we'll take years to catch up. No competition on that front. So we've done well.
