Makes us think we can take points off the better teams too. People saying we’ve had easier fixtures, there’s still pressure of having to go and win them.
Burnley and Leeds fell apart in injury time when under the cosh. We held on and took the point. It’s these weekends which will prove the difference between staying up and going down. The signs for us are very good.
Burnley only have on player up front with any quality, the Burnley tactic is fine for some games but they are abysmal to watch imo. I know its in hindsight now but moving Salah off the wing into the middle was crucial and obvious 5 minutes into the second half. He caused panic and was crucial in depriving Burnley of their ambition which was one precious point. They give me the impression that that is their aim every game , long may it continue.
This! They kept Liverpool from scoring for 93 minutes and other than a silly handball would have got a point! Can you imagine the score if they tried to play "football"!
I’m not against setting up defensively, we have done it many times. They had 2 banks of 5 and absolutely no way out. There was barely any way they could attack it was so rigidly set up. There’s an art to defending and there’s ways to defend that still allow you to have a game. They decided 0-0 was the jackpot before a ball was kicked. I can’t get on board with that, at home, against a side that’s conceded 4 in its first 3 games. We were defensive yesterday, without being in such a shape that it was impossible for more than 1 man to attack.
I don’t think the anti-football comments are justified from what I’ve seen of them this season. So far the stats for Burnley are 30 shots at goal and 9 on target. Sunderland have had 37 shots at goal and 9 on target. Burnley have scored 4. We have scored 5. Considering they’ve also played Man U, Spurs and Liverpool, I don’t see that as anti-football stats. We certainly aren’t anti-football.
Was me that said it, and it was wholly based on today. I said they deserved that on what I’d watched today. I stand by it.
It’s Liverpool, though. When we play them at home, I fully expect us to be back to the wall most of the game, such is the gulf in quality. Burnley did try and break out but clearly lacked the quality when doing so. They just weren’t prepared to risk it all. I think it’s fair enough tbh mate.
Aye well we are all entitled to our opinions. For me 2 flat banks of 5 gives you no chance to break. We won’t play like that. What’s the point defending like that in a game you always likely to lose, surely you better off at least having a go?
they told us we were miles away from them, 20 odd points difference, yet all of a sudden we have premier league games we should be winning……they need to make their minds up
19% possession, no shots on target and one corner ... ... Burnley deserved to lose because they didn't play football and stopped Liverpool playing football. If they play defence v attack in all games against the top teams their supporters must wonder why they bother. Parker's claiming the players should all be proud of themselves ... fair enough.
Respect to Burnley today. 95mins it took Liverpool to break them down with a Pen. 10 of them minutes Burnley were playing with 10 men
Whoever had the idea of the half time player interview should be sacked on the spot! Absolutely ridiculous and adds nothing
