He would have been going for either the head shot or the chest kill zone. I highly doubt he was a trained marksman.
Trump blames 'radical left political violence' for killing of Charlie Kirk, fails to mention killing of Democratic lawmaker in Minnesota In an Oval Office address delivered before the person who killed the conservative activist Charlie Kirk has even been identified, Donald Trump blamed ‘the radical left’ for the shooting and promised a crackdown. “For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today and it must stop right now,” Trump said. “My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity, and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials and everyone else who brings order to out country.” He then provided a list of incidents of what he termed “radical left political violence, including the attempt to kill him last year, the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the 2017 shooting of Republican congressman Steve Scalise and what he called “the attacks on Ice agents.” The president’s list notably did not include violence against Democrats, like the murder of Melissa Hortman, a Minnesota state lawmaker, and her husband, and the shooting of another Democratic state lawmaker and his wife in June, by a man who a hit list of 45 elected officials — all Democrats. He also chose to omit the attack on former House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, the Trump supporter who sent pipe bombs to leading Democrats, or the threats to the life of his first vice-president, Mike Pence, by pro-Trump rioters who beat police officers on January 6 2021.
I don't like seeing anybody getting killed and I think this guy's killer needs to be brought to justice, but there it a certain irony in this from a man who helped to install a tyrannical govt under Trump and Vance. The second amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government,” Kirk said. “Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty,” Kirk added. “So we need to be very clear that you’re not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen,” he said. “You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death. That is nonsense,” he said. “But … I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”
One of the biggest criticisms of Islam from the West is the religion's adherence to particular practices (under Sharia Law) that seem archaic, outdated and even barbaric by modern Western ideals and standards ... completely understandable given western countries are modern, tech enabled, increasingly secular democracies promoting 'equal rights', opportunities and freedoms for everyone ... ... but similarly, Western states / democracies need to look at their own laws, rules and traditions to evaluate whether they continue to be both relevant and 'best practice' in the modern era ... The US second amendment was written in 1791 when the arms that could have been carried by each 'man' were a single shot pistol or musket enablnge a citizen(s) to protect themselves against an unlawful aggressor(s) ... it is inconceivable that those who drafted the bill could have imagined the destructive capabilities and extreme (accurate) range of modern, high velocity, automatic and semi automatic firearms. IMHO America needs to review and amend the now archaic second amendment to make it fit for purpose in the modern age and to best safeguard the lives if its citizens; particularly children attending schools etc., but also to counter the increasingly worrying trend of political assassinations / attempted assassinations ... Just my view, of course... Benjamin Fosselin III
I think a lot of the West's fear about Islam is that it cannot grasp that religious principles underpin most of society, from Govt to schools, hospitals, social services etc. And like the principles of Christianity and most other religions, the basic principles are the same, around ensuring that community comes first, that poor and sick people are cared for and that you as an individual play your part to contribute to the greater whole. We live in a secular society, that has now seen individual accumulation of wealth and status as the goal. Individual rights trump those of the community and it's a dog eat dog style of get what you can for yourself and it's your fault if you fall behind. As for the US and the 2nd amendment. Ironically, I think it's probably now more than ever that the principle of being able to defend yourself against a tyrannical Govt is coming into sharp focus. The problem with allowing everybody to have guns is that they can't reasonably overthrow a tyrannical govt as it would just send in the National Guard (as we are seeing in Washington) to put down any uprising, so the result is that the US has a gun control problem where most deaths are by accident or suicide and its very easy for people to buy guns to shoot kids in school or anybody that they don't share the same political platform with. Context is everything. Why not put the full speech up? I don’t like seeing anybody killed, ‘but’ - yeah okay mate.
You don't think it's at all ironic that a guy who publicly suggested that a number of deaths by shooting each year is 'acceptable' is then killed in a shooting?
In the final analysis, every society on Earth has problems, you'll just see a different set of problems depending on where you are. And if you grow up surrounded by those problems, you often won't notice them. Indeed, you may suffer such confirmation bias that you come to describe some of them as virtuous. George C. Kane Jr.
Some on GC politics thread (not surprising) ... one where 'a mark' on his shirt on the right side of his chest mysteriously moves upwards to his throat, just before he's shot ... it's quite bizarre... was wondering if it might have been some sort of insect? ... **** knows...
Last thing on earth we need is an escalation where the left and right think it's ok to take out political rivals and it becomes more of a norm. The only thing that ensures is that nobody is safe.
What is the full context ? I thought I’d put it all up and yeah I don’t like seeing anybody being killed. Nothing else to that.
Something we agree on There’s also a tendency to see the ‘problems’ that other societies have and project our own fears, whilst ignoring those that are going on at home.
