Tiy know my opinion. It changed for a few days around the Newcastle battle but forget it. We could well finish bottom
I think we played Everton and Newcastle at exactly the right time. We can praise the four points but was it because we were good or that they were poor ? We might get better but so will every other side that we play. The 49r's said they had a plan, if the plan was freebies and the walking wounded they better have another plan for the Championship next season.
Right now I would recall Gelhardt as he scores goals and can play right wing and at ten. We need someone creative what do we have to lose not going to be long before it becomes clear we need creativity and assists. There will be no recall option though as the 49ers are shyt at contracts
I guess none of us knows what really went on... but it looked to me like, the noises from Spurs suggested he was going to stay and fight for his place... so then we started looking for alternatives. Only for him to come available after we got one.
If you’re looking for positives, Newcastle might have played us at the right time with Tanaka and Ampadu injured and Okafor and DCL seriously lacking match fitness
I think Farke has been pleased with Harrison’s form and sees him, Gnonto and Okafor as his options. Okafor being able to play centrally ticks more boxes for DF
Okafor needs to replace the 9 goals and many assists of Solomon, James scored quite few too and needs him to repeat, who is going to replace the Aaronson goals? We also need Willie to chip in with his goals and Ramazani’s, Bogle needs to do it again and Gudmundson needs to replace Firpo’s. Can DCL, Piroe and Nmecha step up to score Piroe’s 19 between themselves. We need goals to stay up last season Ipswich scored 36 goals and were relegated, conceding 87, so far in 3 games we have scored 1 goal and conceded 5. Luckily the 49ers helped us out in the transfer window by making it plain we have to rely on what we have. Thanks Marathe you dick
All of the goals you mentioned were in the championship with nothing to suggest any of those same players could/would replicate that in the prem. We’ve conceded five but all in the same game, two out of three have been clean sheets and that ain’t bad as Meatloaf once said
Once the transfer window closes, you can't recall any player on loan, until the next transfer window opens. Whilst there may be some extraordinary circumstances that the FA would allow it to happen, I don't think a club's inability to sign players would be one of the exceptions.
Solomon would not repeat his goals or assists playing for us in the PL, superior quality of the opposition and far less games A few weeks ago I joined in a conversation on the Sunderland board, one poster put not one promoted team will sign or have a striker who can score 20 goals, if any players manages 15 it would be a miracle. Liam Delap was the success story and he only managed 12 goals. If you have a look at the stats through the seasons, very rarely do you get 10 players scoring 15 or more, 22/23 only 8 managed it. There were some very good players stuck on 10-11 including Raphinha 23/24 nine managed 15 or more, players like Mbeumo, Isak and Firmino on 9-11 goals. If we get 12 goals from DCL and 8 from Okafor it would be fantastic, sadly I don’t see where the other goals needed will come from, maybe Gnonto and James 10 between them, I can’t see the midfield three contributing much. We have a team of giants and bizarrely the only one capable of taking a decent set piece is the tallest of them all
I can see Bogle getting a few, maybe Bijol/Struijk with a couple, think Tanaka, Longstaff & Stach will also get a couple. Then need DCL, Nmecha, Piroe, Gnoto, Okafor, James, Harrison & Aaronson to get a few. If we can get 4-10 from the starters and a couple for the subs and keep it solid at the back I think we could stay up.
Think I demonstrated how fooked we are. We need to score around 50 goals and not concede the 80 odd Ipswich let in. That’s the problem our owners have left us with. Harry Wiilson wasn’t the answer anyway and wasn’t even the question until Monday.
Ipswich if I remember rightly, very rarely, if at all conceded 4-5 goals in a game, they had quite a few 1-1 early on and several games where they let a lead slip. Conceding 80 is okay if your defeats are 5-0 and between them you manage a 1-0 win and a 0-0 draw There are too many 'what if's' to put a figure on what's required, look at Burnley last season same points as us yet scored much fewer but their defence was solid Farke has made us a solid looking team, hard to beat against lower half teams, go a goal behind against the top ones and we're in trouble We played well pre-season yet did not have the new signings
That was the season Mr one-nil George Graham took over. You don't need to score many if you don't concede.
That was the season that I stopped moving heaven and earth to ensure that I had the time off from work, to travel from the Isle of Man and get full use of my season ticket. After that I just rang the ticket office and bought a ticket a day or two before the game, even during our Champions League era, for those games that I was free to attend. Of course these days, with hindsight, maybe I should have carried on with my season ticket for the 29 years, but that would've been a lot of money to watch a lot of **** during that time
