During the Sky Transfer Window programme they were running an advert for a donkey sanctuary. I thought it was ironic after the litany of dire players Sunderland were linked with in the January window and even this one. To protect those of a nervous disposition I won't list all the various donkeys we might now have at the club, it still gives me the shivers. We could've easily brought in some truly appalling players who may have dragged us up but would be totally inadequate at PL level. This, in my opinion, is where the likes of Sheff Utd and Burnley get the whole thing wrong ... ... they've brought in endless players good enough to grab the Sky money but far from being able to stay there. What's equally illuminating is that the shining lights, of our playoff rivals, Hamer, Rudoni, etc, now look like they wouldn't get close to our first team eleven, probably not even in the squad. To me, that shows just how far we've come when we'd now, imo, be horrified if Sunderland had signed players of that level yesterday ... ... Sunderland took a big chance trying to go up with what we had but it financed our spending in this window, absolutely incredible planning imo.
That’s what most fans are like to be fair. Only have to read match day threads to see that for yourself.
Clubs to now follow their results; Birmingham Middlesbrough Wycombe Wolfsberg Anyone else I've forgotten where players are on loan?
A mate at work is an Ajax fan, a Dutchman moved to London this year from Amsterdam. catching up with him today post holidays he said he thinks Robbey suits the PL. he is physical and strong as f**** and loves going up against defenders in the big games. His head was shot to **** by what happened with the blackmail etc , so a fresh start also very good for him. He also rates Gerty… references him as more of a centre back who can also play defensive midfield…. Than a right back.
Don't see too much wrong with that tbf, the posts are a year apart, a lot changed in that time. Sometimes players just don't kick on as expected (or even, regress). Look at Dele Alli, as a youngster he was hyped up as a £100M+ superstar, he's still in his prime and has been utter ****e for the past 5 years... There's mitigating circumstances for Brobbey and obviously we all hope he can get back to his 2023/24 form (and improve from there), but I don't blame people for being wary based on his performances last year.
As a fan you're always optimistic at the beginning of a new season , it's a new start. Last year we got off to a flyer and from that point the play offs didn't appear out of reach . Well , we made it , despite a few bumps . This summer I'm thinking we'll spend £100 M , Enzo and maybe 5 others. The rest of the squad , Ballard , Rigg , Neal , Roberts etc. Never in a million years did I expect a full team and more in the transfer market .Many have come highly recommended and the owners have done us proud. I'm optimistic again although it's a huge challenge. Two months ago KS was interviewed on the training ground highlighting survival first . After identifying and signing 3 or 4 key players there was still a need for " several more players " . Guy doing the interview says " seven " ? . They both laugh but wasn't wrong. Aye, the speed of growth is bonkers. I'm sure they'd have had a kick on plan for us in the event of not going up, but whatever happens from now, they have done absolutely everything they could. It only seems five minutes since Parkinson was waiting for Danny Graham to get down from a bloated whale to a normal fat bloke before we signed him up.
the bloke was a victim of extortion, his best mate was shot over it, his sister in law had her car blew up, the lad has had an off season and i'm not surprised why
btw im not saying people can't be wary that's cool just think all that should be taken into account when he had just had an unreal season, the year before
