He has said on multiple occasions he couldn’t play 4 at the back as we didn’t have wingers. With Fellows and Scienza we do.
I missed that quote, i've heard him say that he doesn't get hung up by systems. I really hope that he does play it or something similar.
If we are going 4 at the back, we probably have 1 too many centre back options, so wouldn't be surprised by this. Be a shame, mind.
He's only 22. Very young for a CB. I would hate for us to sell him now as I think he's got a lot of potential. If we do sell we've got to include a buy back clause.
Oh I agree, seems silly to sell a young lad with obvious potential without giving him a run in the team.
Was thinking the same. 2 new full backs and 2 new wingers does suggest a change from 3 CBs... hopefully!
I don't know what to think about Edwards. He's been highly-rated for some time and supposedly did really well at QPR but he's not been great in his few appearances for us and his height may end up being an issue. You don't get many top level CBs under 6 ft tall.
Agree with you. I did think when Spors (and then Still) came in and they both spoke publicly about athleticism, adding more physical profiles and being more aggressive, whether they would really be that taken by a 5ft11in central defender...
Even if Still/Spors don't think he has a great future at Saints, it would be stupid to sell now. He has proven himself to be a very capable championship defender at just 22, so another season playing regularly will only see his value go up. We would be better off loaning him out for another season rather than sell for a few £m now.
I think Quarshie looks more exciting than Edwards, with his pace and physical qualities. A sale with a buy back clause might be a decent path to go down.
Yep. And I thought Quarshie offers something we lack, which is pace and power. Edwards has looked uncertain, defended no better and is too small.
