Think football has slowly been going more power to players as things move on. Look at Mbappe and TAA leaving to Madrid on free. It does seem like something has to change. Players aren’t going to want to sign 3 year deals but it’s almost like for most clubs something like 5/6 year deals with a release clause of X after 3 years might become more the norm now. It at least gives the club an out saying there is the value, if it’s hit free to go. And gives the player an out if they want it. I think relying on gentlemen’s agreements has really shown that worth nothing.
Where we're at: Woltemade >>> WIlson. Wissa < Isak. Ramsey > Longstaff. Ramsdale = Dubravka. Elanga > Nobody. Thiaw > Lascelles. Squad is definitely better, just not handled terribly competently. Still 2 short for me. LB cover and a spark from attacking positions. Looks like a Dutch LB is on the way, which realistically just leaves a Barnes out - creative player in to make it a rescued window. Think not going bigger on GK was a mistake.
Agree. It's on clubs, players and agents to find a middle ground that provides both clubs and players with some degree of protection. Players throwing fits and going on strike just because they don't get their way should be punishable. Equally, clubs reneging on written, contractual agreements should be punished too. As you say, release clauses of specific values and/or timeframes within a contract need to become the norm - and adhered to.
With all this insanity over with, I hope we can come back from the Internationals with a new look 11 and get 3 points from Wolves. Crack on with our season
This international break is always the stupidest one going. players back for 3 weeks, not in full flow, transfer window closing and players can gel with new team mates as they have to **** off on international duty. That being said, If Isak was to get seriously hurt whilst away it would be a shame
