If you can't be good -- be lucky
    1. Vokes - right place - right time -right header.
    2. Drummond ( Oldham's No.15 ) right place - right time -wrong header ! .... how did he miss the goal ?
    3. 549 Gills fans - right place - right time -to sing about going top of the league.....pity you all won't be going to Bromley - they had a pathetic attendance of 2340 (( not even half full )), for the game v Harrogate yesterday.

Gills were far from convincing at Oldham...I like the commitment of the squad - but - deficiencies definitely exist...We do have strong centrebacks - but - when playing with 3 at the back, it causes us to be too narrow and too many times against Chesterfield ( and particularly v Crewe ), we failed to stop crosses into the 6 yard box... Oldham's Drummond should be ashamed of his header - the cross he received was glorious and deserved a goal. .........perhaps Bromley are not good enough to be lucky !....
will our luck be cursed when Ainsworth get the award for Manager-of-the-month ?

Didn't see the game, it seemed as though it was heading for a 0-0 which is much what I was expecting with Oldham's record this season, so to get 3 points away was a nice surprise.

As much as I love being top of the league, I think luck for a change has helped us get there, but if the players continue to apply commitment, then it's how good fortune rolls. I'm not getting too carried away, because one bad game or luck to go the opposite way brings the sort of fortune that Crewe found out about yesterday.

Well done lads, keep up the good work. Consistency is the key.

I was conducting a wedding ceremony and left my phone at home, so I knew nothing until I got back home.
What a great result to see, we had won away from home, especially with Oldham's draws this season.
Then I checked the BBC page to see the write-up and saw we were TOPPPPPPPPP.YEAHHHHHHHHH
We are playing as a team, and to see these new signings being eased in.
Well done to all those who travelled.

I know I have asked this before, is there any way of watching all the matches as before with I Follow, does it still exist? Or even on the radio?

Late to the party as usual. I refrained from commenting on Saturday in the hope that the sobriety of a Sunday post might make more sense, and then life took over and I didn't get round to it.

There is a lot to like about the team this season, not least that the workrate has undoubtedly been improved significantly compared to the last 2 seasons efforts. That there are a substantial number of the same players in the squad and that everyone seems to be committed to the plan (now that Gbode's gone) is a huge testament to Ainsworth, who has also got players to open their eyes and look at possibilities for passes other than the obvious, and for runners to look for space. It's still a work in progress, but looking much more promising than I feared after the Accrington game.

That said, we still can't score goals on a consistent basis, and until we find 2 players who between them will contribute 25-30 goals our current position will be under serious threat. Hopefully this week's signings will be a further step in that direction. We are where we are mostly because we have a decent defence, and partly because several opponents have not taken advantage of opportunities they have created.

Anyway, as far as the match was concerned, there was a cracking atmosphere despite Gills being consigned to the back section of the stand, though at least that kept us dry when the rain came. You probably all know how it went, so I'll not waste any space going into much detail. As intimated above, the defence was generally sound - most of Oldham's many chances were from distance, and had I got round to posting earlier Sam Gale would have got my 3 points. Although Oldham would have won the 2nd half on points, I still thought we had pretty good control in general - there was never a 'it's coming' negative feeling about the game.

My kidneys are taking a rest from live football for a few weeks now, but hopefully we'll still be there or thereabouts next time I get to a game.
