They have a Castle I believe. It has a chequered history. I believe the entire Jewish population of the area was rounded up and massacred there around 700 or 800 years ago.
It was a dark chapter for sure, and not one that sits well in the 'good news' thread. But of interest to those with a liking for Medieval history. Sadly such things went on all over Europe in the dark ages. England was no exception.
Can’t keep apologising for stuff that happened centuries ago , as you stated it happened all over the globe
A shame you have not visited Whitby, I have a mate that goes there and says it is lovely. York is very nice as well of course!
It’s ok but I won’t be rushing back , maybe Whitby on another occasion- I’d love to do the west coast of Scotland next , the scenery is fantastic
York is a fantastic city. The Minster, Clifford's Tower, Jorvik museum, Dick Turpin's grave, the real Stamford Bridge, Bootham Crescent and myriad restaurants and cafes. I have a week in York every other year. Whitby is a gorgeous place. The cod and chips are unrivalled.
Yes it’s very nice and we went to a fantastic Tapas restaurant in Foss gate but I feel after a couple of days there I’ve seen and done what I wanted to
