Still disappointed after the game. Pointed out that Archer was not offside when flagged through on goal. We just aren’t getting any luck. Also annoyed with our lack of concentration to the end of games. Apparently Downes is genuinely sick and that is not an area we have a lot of depth in.

Goalkeeping must need a fair bit of resilience of the mind as your mistakes are always much more visible than any other position so got to give him credit for not folding after a crappy couple of seasons and right now I'd rather him than mccarthy in goal for the league games.

I agree he's been okay so far this season but let's please not heap too much praise on him before the skates visit :emoticon-0106-cryin

Watch him save a 92nd minute penalty to win the game now... (though I'd much rather we stay switched on and not give one away in the first place)

Yeah, he was on - being played on by the nearside defender (despite what Tessem says, but then I'm pretty sure he commentates on five pints and half a bag). Pretty confident that would have made it 2-0 and realistically three points to us.

    Positives

    - Wood has excelled expectations so far this season for me. Looked very assured today (well first half at least, harder to judge the second but didn't seem to put a foot wrong)

    - Very promising debut from Azaz. Obviously the chemistry with team mates isn't quite there yet as expected but can see his quality for sure. The exact type of player we've needed for a number of years now.

    - Archer looks reborn and full of confidence again. Delighted he got another goal and thought his all round game was very good today too. Seems to have added some strength over the summer as well? There was a moment just before he went off where he absolutely bullied one of the Watford defenders who's twice the size of him. We definitely lost something when he went off.

    - Really impressed with Mads. Seems a really solid signing on the face of it though early days of course.

    Negatives

    - Disappointing to not take all 3 points once we went 2-1 up. While it was a fantastic strike and you have to hold your hands up it would have been nice if we could have just controlled the pace of the game instead of it remaining frantic.

    - On the subject of controlling games so far this season we seem to have moments in games where we go from extremely comfortable to completely rattled in a matter of minutes. I'd hope it's something which will improve the more players play together but it needs sorting sooner rather than later ideally.

    - We seem a very soft team and on the theme of above point dare I say a bit fairweather? Lacking a bit of grit and physicality which is a concern because they are essential attributes for a team to have to be successful in this league. I personally think this is a big part of our defensive issues rather than tactical or personnel.

Overall more positives than negatives for me despite the overriding feeling being disappointment at FT. A few underlying concerns but its very early days and I'm hopeful they're all things we can improve on as the squad get more minutes together.

Ultimately today will be forgotten if we do the business next time out so please Saints, make sure we ****ing do!

It was handball for our first goal, not intentional, but enough for a VAR reversal.

From the highlights, Bazunu was a bit too far over one side for the free kick, but it was still accurate with decent pace, only criticism was that he didn’t give himself the best chance to make a stop.
Had no chance with the first goal, fired at serious pace

But VAR would also have sent off their freekick scorer…

I think we are much better off without it

Oh I forgot another negative - was an extremely poor away end with very little sustained atmosphere.

Far too many people either not interested at all or bang on the gear and only capable of singing two songs.

There was a few lads who kept trying to sing a song about Fellows after the first equaliser. Like what's the point when the team need a lift of singing a song about a player who isn't even in the squad yet?

Oh can we PLEASE stop singing the ****ing Gabbiadini song? He was only here a couple of years and I really don't understand why his song gets an outing at what seems like 50% of games. End of the season dead rubber then yeah fine but otherwise utterly ridiculous.

Whilst our numbers are excellent these days away from home I do think the support is largely very poor tbh. I'm hopeful Hull might be better with it being a northern and unfashionable game.

    Rant over.

When did Still get injured? Was it during the post-match contretemps?

Was in the away end today too and saw it very similar to Libby. Azaz was encouraging for a creative player having to operate in a team without any wingers and with teammates he has barely learnt the names of at this stage

I have to admit my underlying feeling at this point is that we’re a playoff side rather than automatic contenders but it’s early days. Just right now, I don’t have the same underlying confidence that I had in the squad Martin was working with in 2023

Only thing I’d say different to Libby is that I didn’t feel Roerslev had a good game. But I think it might just take some time for us all to get used to him, as you can tell he prioritises not being caught wildly out of position and at times teammates are flicking balls round the corner for him to run after upfield and he’s not making the run. Just a different type of full back

Overall, I came away feeling more positive than negative and if our midfield hadn’t been so lopsided and limited in terms of options, I think we win that game. A lack of control in midfield is definitely my overriding takeaway from our first run of games up to this international break

Sitting in the home end yesterday I took a very similar view. The support was strangely muted throughout bar bar periods after the goals. It may lend itself to Watford not having vocal fans either side of the away end but still, a disappointing showing.

Really surprised by this as the away support at Ipswich was decent, and they always sound loud on the telly. Maybe London/local games attract the less vocal fans.

That seems unlikely given he drives Adam home after away games o_O

Yeah Ipswich was decent enough (not great imo but decent enough) but we're poor far more often than we're good these days and it used to be the other way round.

Northampton was a shocker too. Like I say I'm hoping Hull might be better as a less fashionable/local one.

    This is disappointing
We haven't been able to get tickets for away games much recently, but we're hoping to get to Derby and open the door to some more
When we were last going to more it was always good

Also remember a phase years back when it was shocking, too many pissed/etc teenagers falling over and slagging off the team especially the keeper
Either Bart or Gazzaniga, can't remember

... And the great days e.g. Great Escape at Selhurst v Wombles, League One & Championship promotion season
