I think his point is more that this is the same injury he picked up in training as opposed to a fresh one isn't it?

I've not seen anywhere that he took an ankle knock last week, it was always his calf wasn't it? Then the illness on top, but he'd have been unavailable anyway.

 

I’m pretty sure he played in a pre season friendly at Bradford PA and he literally was ‘carrying ‘ one leg in the warm up - sorry , limping for the uninitiated . Think Stuart Elliott had just arrived and looked decent .

 

How can it be anything other than coincidence? There is absolutely no connection to all 48 games other than the distance travelled and even then varying methods will have been used to make the journey over the years. One place has to be our worst to visit for goals conceded and another place has to be the best, that's life.

It's the type of stat annoying geeks like Matterface roll out when commentating instead of just calling the game. All it serves to do is put doubt and negativity towards our current squad.

 

I do think there's a correlation between distance travelled and poor away results across the board tbh.

I disagree. I'd like someone with loads of time to compare our record at Bristol City with Bristol Rovers, Swansea, Cardiff and Exeter.

Think it would be more of a thing to be travelling then playing the same day.

You'd think being in a hotel the night before would limit the travel fatigue by kickoff time regardless of how they travelled .

Well quite obviously the general standard of opposition comes into it as well.

You'd probably have to factor relative league position and recent form into any calculation somehow too.

With the magnificent TigerBase website, it took several minutes to prove that the record at Bristol City is worse than all of those. No need to thank me. The figure is points per game for away league matches against those teams over the years.

You might find it annoying but just because you don't have an explanation doesn't mean there isn't one. Since 1965 we've played 30 league games at AG, winning once and losing 20 times, that's way beyond the law of averages for two clubs of very similar standing. I have no idea why our record there is so bad but they're the facts and, whatever the reason, I don't think mere coincidence explains it.

Obviously we'll go and batter them now.

So distance has nothing to do with the bad record at Bristol City and it is just coincidence we have conceeded our largest amount of away goals at their ground and not Sheff Wednesday then?

 

And as much as you are entitled to think it is more than coincidence neither yourself or anyone else can give a justifiable reason to counter 'coincidence' which is all I am saying. McKechnie Orange mentioned distance but our record at clubs further away than Bristol isnt as bad. As I have said before, there has to be a ground where we ship the most goals or have the worst record. If all 48 games were in the same year with the same players and same manager there could be other factors but this is spread over a 30 odd year period I think.

 

To be fair, of those mentioned I think only really Cardiff can compare to BC in terms of generally being a tougher opposition than BC, Plymouth and Exeter.
