Goals weren't his only contribution. We will miss him, but it would be madness to miss out on at least £7.5m to let him finish his contract and leave for nothing, even if it is Ipswich. Let's hope Mattsson turns out to be a gem. He shouldn't have much trouble settling in give the number of Danes in the squad already.

Town are more likely to finish higher. Also Ipswitch is less remote compared to us up here, better road connections, closer to nightlife, Stansted etc. Almost certain he'd be paid more, with higher bonuses. If, and it is a big if, the Club was looking for a top 6 finish it is not financially responsible to sell your best player to a rival for that spot especially if that Club is your closest rival. You obviously read different reports to me as I understand there were plenty of Clubs interested in him but were not prepared to pay the asking price. Better to sell your best player for £10m to a promotion rival rather than £8m to one of the interested Spanish Club? What if another promotion rival, such as Leicester, offer £20m for Sargent over the weekend? Would it be financially responsible to sell when it would end our ambition for at least this season. Knapper is doing his job as undoubtedly instructed by the owner. Talks about ambition and a transfer kitty when, in reality, we get more money in than out in the transfer window and ambition gone straight out of the window. For most of his Norwich career, Kenny has played a role similar to Nunez currently; and for part of his (much shorter) Norwich career, Nunez has played a role similar to McLean currently.
Who says he's our best player ? What is the evidence to support that view ? Would you keep Nunez over Sergeant, McLean, Darling ? Who were these plenty of clubs that were interested ? Were they also our rivals for a top 6 spot ? Was Nunez interested in playing for any of them ? Is Ipswich going to be a promotion rival ? Will Nunez joining them make a difference ? Who says selling Nunez ends an ambition we have for the season ? Could keeping an unhappy player at the club, effect other players and impact on our ambition for the season ? Who's to say if we spend the money on a replacement he doesn't come in and be the next Buendia ? Anyway, the club isn't mystic meg and doesn't have a crystal ball, it can only deal with the circumstances as they are now, not make a judgement based on a best guess of what might happen in the future. Your assessment seems to that by selling Nunez we have given up any chance of gaining promotion, but even with him your assessment seemed to be that we had more chance of getting regulated than promoted, so why does it matter if he goes to a team that may end the season challenging for promotion. Not sure why you thinking comparing the Nunez situation with a hypothetical bid for Sergeant, has any value, as each players circumstances are very different. You've change your tune to fit your view, just because we may have spent less on transfer fees than we've received from sales is a flawed measure, as well you know ! I'm not going to go back and revisit all you comments about the clubs finances, but it is quiet clear to me (and I suspect others) that your comments on this occasion are inconsistent with previous views you have expressed about club finances.
Nunez league stats since joining are below, he may appear to the eye to be one of our most creative midfielders but the stats don't really back that up. He certainly has scored some memorable goals/freekicks, but in his 3 years he has contributed less than Sara/Maddison/Buendia did in a single season. Lets not get too carried away suggesting he is our best player or a some sort of world beater. He has been a decent CM for us, who provided good moments, but he is injured as often as he provides a goal or assist according to the below

Suffice to say that the European sports coverage dealt many times with Spanish Clubs, including Real Betis and Getafe, making approaches for Nunez. As far as Accounting and financial responsibility is concerned if you can sell an asset for a substantial sum you do so but you do not sell that asset to a rival Company who could then harm your business even if they offer more money

I most certainly do not think he is in the same league as Maddison, Buendia or Sara nor is he a world beater but he has been our best performer of late and his loss will be felt certainly in the short term.
Well it may be the end of the story for you, 1950, but not for the club. I'm not pleased that he's going to Ipswich but I'd be far less pleased if he stayed on dissatisfied, then committed to Ipswich in January and finished his last 4 months playing for us but committed to them. As for transfers, by my records we've paid out £26m and received in £23.5m in this window. You ranted about Long, but that's been sorted and IMO the club did what financial sense demanded on Núñez. Like Canario, I find it very strange that you throw away your sense of financial responsibility for the emotions of a local rivalry. If the scenario you set out regarding Nunez was the only option I can understand it but if we could have sold him to Spain for a bit less? As far as transfers are concerned it depends on which figures you accept but everybody seems to accept it was £10m for Nunez and £14.5m for Sainz and other figures would suggest a pay out for players of £23.5m. Whatever the exact figure it is not an ambition transfer kitty expenditure. As I said to Canario it you sell an asset it can make financial sense but it is not financially responsible or sensible to sell that asset to a competitor that could then harm your business. We had differing views at the start of the season as to the likely outcome and you were hoping for top 6. With what has happened on and off the field already this season do you still think that is realistic? As you know I felt that mid table was the best we could hope for but with everything that has happened I think that might be ambitious and if Sargent goes as well we could be in trouble. On the other hand Manning could get them fit, get out of his current tactical mindset and some of the players show a lot more than they have shown so far - who knows what will happen?
I don't believe the role McLean played in the team was close enough to Nunez to warrant a direct comparison. I also think that when McLean didn't play the effect on the team overall was much greater than when Nunez didn't play.
