I'm sorry Lincs, while not happy with the Fernandes fee, getting Azaz, Fellows and this guy in does not equate to an awful window. And I haven't even mentioned Mads, Quarshie or Downs.
Downs is a full USA international and he looks like needing time to slowly integrate and develop. Isn't Quashie also some level of youth player for the German National side too, and also looks like he'll need time to adjust and develop. Maybe this guy will come straight in and be ready, it's not unheard of. But it's less likely. You can hardly be surprised that people are much more positive about a player already proven as one of the best in the league in his position over a player that nobody had heard of until a few hours ago playing in the German second division.
With good reason. Mads is an ok if rather uninspiring signing, the other 2 aren't good enough to make any real difference
Sure, of course (though USA is slightly different to Germany in terms of quality), but I'm finding it odd people saying this is somehow a bad window. We look MUCH stronger, regardless of losing Dibling and Fernandes, once all these go through (fingers crossed).
I think you're undervaluing Mads. Plenty of PL experience, a good crosser and good defensively. A clear upgrade on Yuki.
We're about to sign West Brom's best player, and the best #10 in the league (according to Boro fans) for half of what we sold Matty for (who was clearly not in the game, mentally). We've got another half of that to spend, then if we need reinforcements in January or more to the point if we get promoted, we have the Dibling money. And that's without mentioning any of the German players, or "high potential" players etc. It's (with a fair wind) a very good window.
I believe so, and the Dibling deal is pure profit, so we've put ourselves in a very good position. (Plus we're building a squad that suits what the manager wants to do tactically. Which makes a nice change).
I don't think anyone yet knows for sure what the PSR rules will be for the PL in 2026-27 (or the EFL for that matter). The move to the "squad cost ratio" system hasn't happened for 2025-26, and might not happen for 2026-27 either. But as things currently stand, this current three-year cycle (to 30 June 2026) is the last one which includes the big sales of JWP, Lavia and Tino (amongst others). So that's bad news when looking beyond this season.
Well sure, but that's not the comment that I responded to. That was that you couldn't understand why people were excited for one particular player and not for another. Which I think is nothing to do with the national youth teams they represent as you suggested, and entirely down to the leagues from which we are buying them from. And as such them being more likely to be ready to step straight into the first team. I'm still reserving judgement until the window is closed. Ramsdale and Fernandes were far better than any players we'll bring in. Could arguably say the same for Dibling. We have lost that top quality that can so often be the difference maker in games. Most people will be pissed off that we haven't kept hold of one of them, and fair enough in my opinion. When the window shuts we may well have a more balanced team and squad. But that remains to be seen, and again I think it's perfectly understandable given SRs record as a whole, and more recently Spors opening few signings not looking first team ready, that people are concerned.
And that's fair enough. But the reality is that players of the quality of Dibling and Fernandes (and certainly Rambo) were never likely to stay, and we knew that. What we're doing now in the window seems to be eminently sensible to me though, and having a much more balanced squad is a far more effective route to promotion than having a couple of 'stars', particularly when they don't want to be here.
I thought the PSR stuff was done on a rolling three year cycle rather than a set three year period? Admittedly hardly looked into it, but wouldn’t a rolling period make more sense?
Not taking the piss, but it did make me laugh that the news today was essentially Fernandes out, Bundesliga 2 player in. It’s like they’re deliberately trying to wind you up
But since the big sale season we basically got back all the money we wasted trying to stay in the premier league that season, plus. The club has financially been ran very well in the 2 seasons since then. Wage bills have been massively reduced, and we are around £30 million profit on transfers over the past 3 windows, before spending what we’re about to spend this week.
It is a rolling cycle. The cycle which finished earlier this summer was 2022 to 2025; now we have 2023 to 2026; next will be 2024 to 2027 (if the current rules were to remain).
Just been flicking through some comments from fans in Germany regarding young Casper. Very highly rated and already playing at a high standard is the general opinion. One even said that he is better than what we already have, and compared him to Lavia in playing style , but hopefully not made of glass.
I'm not arguing against any of that. Whatever we've done since June 2024 will continue to be relevant beyond June 2026. My point is simply that the current three year cycle is the last one to include the money we made in August 2023. It will drop out once we get to July 2026.
Yes, his overlapping runs were a stand out of his play in the Brentfjord era. Hope to see them soon here.
