Ake would be a very astute signing. LCB and LB exactly what we need. Won loads of trophies, bags of experience, athletic, tall and decent on the ball. Looks like we’re not getting Savinho from City so hopefully we at least get one good player from them. Lot of news coming out that we are trying hard for Simons, would be another good signing if true. Versatile can play 10 or off the left. My only concern would be because of this we won’t sign another attacker. Still Ake and Simons I would be pretty happy.
I don't really get all the fuss about Simons tbh. Paqueta is PL proven and much more experienced. Lookman won't improve us imo but would be a useful squad addition and helps our atrocious HG quota.
Agreed. When all is said and done, better to do nothing and save the money instead of signing someone for the sake of signing someone, who will inevitably go out on half a dozen unsuccessful loans before leaving on a free at the end of their contract.
Our HG numbers are not an issue, though. It's club trained that is causing the problem and that will be sorted over the next couple of years if Bergvall and Gray stay and two out of Moore, Lankshear, Vuskovic, Donley, Dorrington etc make the grade.
Ake almost certainly won’t leave City’s bench for ours. Never really been convinced by Simons. Lookman has never looked good in the Prem. Paqueta I’d take, Prem proven, would probably do well under Frank (as long as he stops gambling!) and it’d piss West Ham fans off even more than they are now. No surprises about Savinho. Throw the money at Bournemouth for Semenyo instead.
agree with all of this. Although, I haven’t seen much of Simons to comment. It’s getting to the point now though, where we’ll be lucky to see 1 through the door with the 5 days that remain.
He strikes me as a bit of a stat padder in weaker leagues. I’d be concerned he could be another Nkunku/ Werner/ Mkhitarian/ Kagawa type. I still think we’ll sign two. I just don’t know who anymore and don’t have much faith in Levy/ Lange to deliver what Frank actually wants/ needs.
He's looking better in Italy than he did in the PL. There's a significant difference in quality between the two leagues these days, so I'd put a fair bit of his 'improvement ' down to that. I could be wrong, but I don't see any other club that's intending to qualify for next season's CL making an offer for him. To my mind, he'd do pretty well at West Ham... We're better off developing Tel, who plays in pretty much the same position.
Rumours from Germany that Simons is in London to discuss a move to Spurs.. "BILD learned: The Dutchman is no longer in Leipzig – but in London! Training this morning is already taking place without him. Before Saturday's home game against Heidenheim, Xavi, who has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2027, has been "released until further notice for future discussions," the club said in response to a BILD inquiry. As previously reported, everything now points to a move to Premier League club Tottenham , where Xavi and his entourage will hold further talks this Thursday. Financial matters will also be discussed. Reports from England suggest that Xavi has very specific (and ambitious) expectations regarding his salary. Also important: While Tottenham hasn't yet submitted an official offer, the clubs have already exchanged verbal figures in initial exploratory talks. RB Leipzig is aiming for a transfer fee of around €70 million, including bonuses. An agreement is expected to be reached on this as well. For RB Leipzig, with sporting director Marcel Schäfer (41), Xavi would be the second major sale this summer, following Benjamin Sesko (22/€80 million to Manchester United). The attacking player is desperate to leave. And for Tottenham, a transfer makes absolute sense: The Champions League club has a huge need for the playmaker position! James Maddison (28) tore his cruciate ligament at the beginning of August. But even before that, it was clear internally that they wanted to bring in reinforcements in that position. Their desired players, Eberechi Eze (27/transfer to Arsenal) and Morgan Gibbs-White (25/contract extension at Nottingham Forest), didn't pan out. For a long time, Chelsea FC was considered the hottest lead, and Xavi and his agent Ali Barat, who has excellent connections in England, had agreed to the club. But the "Blues" have now set their sights on Fermín López (22) from FC Barcelona and have even made the club a €50 million offer for the Spaniard. Tottenham had also had Xavi on their list for some time. Some time ago, they even specifically asked his entourage about a move. Back then, the answer was "Chelsea or stay!" At the time, it was purely a negotiating tactic." ...just when we've convinced ourselves that it won't happen... We'll probably **** it up, anyway...
Chelsea have confirmed Nkunkus departure, so Simons can be crossed of as another well we tried but he wanted Chelsea...
if the wage demands are true, we’re done for if there’s a club like Chelsea in the mix. I keep coming back to the current predicament at west ham, and I’m half expecting a last minute transfer request to go in from Paqueta.
Not before we've agreed terms with his club and had the player turn down being paid in Green Shield Stamps, white fivers and WH Smiths and Woolworths vouchers, ...when he ****s off to that lot, at that point, what else could we have done???
You’d hope Spurs would have learnt and not waste too much time on Simons if it’s unlikely to happen. Can’t let it drag on and then fail because time is seriously running out
With West Ham closing in on Matteus Fernandes from Southampton who could be viewed as a potential Paqueta replacement you could be right
Not sure if it's the case where you live, but the other day I walked into WH Smith to discover it is now called TG Jones. Load of pish.
