The 50 would include add-ons Negotiation means you meet in the middle and we don’t know what add-ons there’ll be yet. Another 20% sell on surely and that’s good money for one unproven player and another slightly proven Difficult to resist the pull and £ of the Prem for Champ players that show that potential
I’m ok with it, but not happy in terms of numbers. If Aribo/Smallbone/Edozie also move on then perhaps we will be back in for some more. I’ve said all summer that even without Dibling and Fernandes and no additions a decent manager gets this squad promoted. The issues come after you go up as we have very few players who could cut it at PL level without those 2. I’d like us to use the loan market in the last few days, but perhaps that was a Wilcox plan last time and Spors is different.
Funny because I thought our valuation was 50m - or was that the fans? But this just reflects what I was saying - pro-West Ham journalists are going to report as low a fee as possible to make it look like they’ve got a real win. And ours are going to report higher The West Ham fans were furious at the idea of spending even close to 40m for him and comparing that fee to what players in similar positions have gone for relatively recently. And they weren’t 100% wrong
Hopefully that’s the end of the business pre the weekend and other moves are contingent on outgoings for example the linked winger is a right winger but we might be offloading two wide left players in Diaz and Edozie which might leave room for one incoming. Same if both Smallbone and Aribo go
So it seems we are instantly more inclined to believe a journo reporting something favourable to West Ham but not one reporting more in our favour. Speaks to the malaise I guess
Probably an unpopular view but watching Matty this season, for me it was clear he didn’t want to be here. His body language was all wrong and I wonder if he felt that he could have more of an impact when surrounded by better players (as well as obviously wanting to break into the national side for the World Cup). I agree that the fee is not brilliant but I don’t think it’s because we are more desperate to sell I think it’s more that we have cashed in on a player that clearly wants out. I do think he’s ‘settled’ for WHU though seeing as there didn’t seem to be any other interest.
Can't see that now we're getting Azaz. Taking emotion out of it, £42m isn't actually a bad price at all for what Matty *actually* is. There's loads of growth potential to him, but really, we do somewhat overvalue our players as fans.
