Good Morning. It's Thursday 28th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds lead race for Brighton playmaker

As the transfer deadline looms ominously, Leeds Utd remain patient on bolstering their creative ranks at Elland Road. Reports suggest the Whites are now pushing hard to secure a crucial acquisition, with Brighton youngster Facundo Buonanotte emerging as a prime target. According to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Leeds are currently "leading the race" to sign the promising midfielder on a loan deal, despite intense competition from other clubs.

The need for an injection of offensive flair is evident, and Farke clearly sees 20yo Buonanotte as a player who can provide that missing link. While other Premier League outfits, most notably West Ham, are also vying for his signature, Leeds seem determined to land the Argentine International. With the transfer window set to slam shut on Monday evening, securing his signature will offer the Whites much-needed creativity and youthful dynamism.

Christantus Uche back on Leeds radar

Leeds appear to be making a late push for Getafe’s attacking midfielder Christantus Uche, resurrecting their interest after the Nigerian international's proposed £20 million move to Wolves dramatically fell through. The 22-year-old had been a sporadic target for the Whites throughout the summer window, but it seemed his destination was set for Molineux, with Wolves having reportedly reached a £20 million agreement with the Spanish club.

However, the deal collapsed when Uche, through his agents, vetoed the transfer, citing dissatisfaction with how negotiations were conducted without his consent. This sudden availability has opened the door for Leeds to re-enter the fray for the versatile player, who primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but is equally comfortable leading the line or playing on the left flank.

The timing of Leeds' renewed pursuit inevitably raises a critical question: does their sudden interest in the Nigerian International suggest the Whites have run out of viable options of their own to bolster their attack? Having been linked to a host of top names throughout the transfer window, Leeds have conspicuously struggled to convince their primary targets to commit, leaving a glaring void upfront.

Uche's capabilities to play in multiple attacking roles could be a significant asset, offering much-needed creativity and goal-scoring threat. However, this late-stage play for a player whose initial move failed due to personal terms issues could be seen as reactive rather than proactive!

Leeds reportedly bank €4m for Greenwood

Leeds United are poised to secure a surprising seven-figure sum from the sale of forward Sam Greenwood to Polish Ekstraklasa side Pogon Szczecin, a deal that is set to stun supporters of both Middlesbrough and Preston North End. Since arriving at Elland Road from Arsenal in the wake of United’s 2019/20 Championship triumph, Greenwood has consistently struggled to assert himself as a first-team regular. This lack of impact led to two consecutive loan spells at the Riverside Stadium and Deepdale during Leeds’ recent two-season stint in the EFL, where he similarly failed to ignite.

The Sunderland-born attacker rarely showcased the form expected of him on the pitch. His inability to make a mark in the Championship under Messrs Carrick and Heckingbottom has ultimately sealed his Elland Road fate. Leeds have spent £100m this summer on strengthening their squad; pushing Greenwood further out in the cold!

Leeds will reportedly bank €4m (£3.45m) marking a shrewd piece of transfer business. Together with the transfer monies for Rasmus Kristensen (€6m), they are starting to recoup much needed funds.

Morning all. I watch more Scottish football than is probably healthy. Watched the Rangers debacle with Brugge last night. Ill get to the point in a minute but for those not aware they were 6-0 down after 50 minutes in one of the most inept disgraceful exhibitions Ive ever seen and the pundits were of same thought. At first I obviously got a lot of pleasure from the fiasco until my thoughts drifted towards their owners and some worrying thoughts appeared. Our 49ers took over this lot and what should have been a relatively easy job, given the two horse nature of the league, to improve them, they have abysmally failed. A donkey of a manager, about ten signings who don't appear to even want to play football. Bookies already paying out on spl winners after three games. Massive fan discontent and likely manager to be sacked in coming days. Ordinarily I couldn't care less but given we have the same owners you have to hope they are far more clued in to our situation. Definitely worth keeping an eye on their performance north of the border

Greenwood apparently has a 20% sell on clause as well ...if correct that's a very good piece of work, we need a couple of more over the line before it's 'dont go to bed just yet' and I still think manor will be back in town...as for the toon on Saturday hopefully pride has been hurt and a suitable reaction will happen <cheers>

Ulch like many this window, Leeds have shown an interest or enquired but it doesn't appear that we have made offers on any of them, other than Paixao.other than the ones we haven't signed.

    Morning all

I do feel you just constantly look for a stick to beat and blame the owners for everything. Celtic spent £3m this season on new players, Rangers £19m so who has been backed the most.

So far this window, our owners have spent £113m and the spending is set to continue. They looked at replacing Farke, realised we couldn’t attract better so kept him and have backed him

I really don’t understand what you want from the club, the owners just can’t win.

The season is three games in North of the border, you’re claiming the 49ers have failed miserably, they’ve hardly finished unpacking

Wasn't surprised to see Martin go to Rangers as he was being touted to replace Farke if we failed to go up, near miss that one. Another one of those managers that hangs his players out to dry, arrogant prick, him and Rangers deserve one another.

Uche does not want to leave Getafe and also has only played top flight football for 1 season!
Would be a good flip for getafe as they only paid 500k for him 1 year ago to a third tier team.
    Best stay clear methinks.

Not beating them for anything just see their performance up there as something to keep an eye on. Celtics transfer activity has been hopeless but here starting from a far higher level. Rangers were at a low ebb and 19m was a minimum to stabilise them as is being proven. Anyway enough about that and hopefully our scouting is infinitely better than theirs that's the point

Not sure that would make sense. Butland there is a top keeper. In fact he made about four great saves in first half last night. Meslier would have conceded twenty

Butland is severely overrated. He was hopeless at Leeds.

And with regards to Meslier, on the evidence of recent games, he’s a lot better than both Perri and Darlow.

Just remember we have a squad of 24 players currently so we only have room for 1 more unless we have more outgoings or the player is u21 (Buonanotte fits this). Saying this I’d be surprised if we bought both Buonanotte & Uche as we’d then have those two as well as Harrison, Okafor, Gnoto & James, 6 players for seemingly 2 positions unless we can sometimes going to deploy a 10 however it doesn’t look like we are because we didn’t against Everton but Sheff W made me doubt this.

EDIT: Actually would be 7 players considering we’ve been playing Aaronson on the wing too.

There are rumblings the club are open to offers on Aaronson, even though they know they will take a hit financially.
Rumours too, Solomon will only happen if Harrison goes first

IMO I think we could off load both pretty easy.. Clubs are going to start panic buying in the next couple of days.

£4m clear profit on Greenwood, Ranger now trying to get Meslier and his old club Lorient still in the mix for Mes and so too is Corberan at Valencia. Schmidt deal happening later today, Ramazani in Valencia now. Lack of news on Gyabi, Harrison and Bamford yet

Yes, Darlow made a right royal ****-up but even very good keepers do at some point. I'd rather see him in goal than Perri and Mes.

    @BerenCross
DF: "After you lose a game (Arsenal), you would change everything. Decisions we took before the game, I would do same again. This group played well against Villarreal, Milan and Everton. If you change this, everyone would question why he is going away from winning formula."
