The sound of the lower reaches of the barrel receiving a scouring has reached my grizzled old lugholes.

If Paqueta, Lookman and the like are where Levy and Lange have brought us, I'd rather we didn't bother and revisited the issue in January/next summer. We're entering Sissoko/Moura/Raziak territory...just on far, far bigger wages.

Would obviously prefer Savinho for our left wing but I also think Lookman would be an excellent buy. Hes come on leaps and bounds since moving to Atalanta and has really worked on his all round game. He’s pretty versatile too and can play anywhere across the front line.

Honestly don't hate the idea of possibly making a late play for Mainoo, especially if we arrange a move for Bissouma, even if Sarr is probably first choice in that role

I don't know why so many people seem so down on Lookman.
He's decently experienced, homegrown and he's been excellent for Atalanta.

Matt Law is saying we’ve keen on rivaling Chelsea for Simons before transfer deadline day. Apparently we’ll only make an offer if we believe we can close the deal quickly, and minimise Chelsea from stealing him for us.

My brain is struggling to understand what this means to be honest. Is it essentially saying that we’re not sure what to do incase we get embarrassed again?

 

Go for him and then if Chelsea get him then at least it’s done.

Not going for players because someone else might want them would be defeatist and bizarre.

Playing our hand too early can and has seen clubs gazumped, such as Newcastle's bid for Wayne Rooney that let Man Utd know he was available - also remember Kulusevski was signed as we blinked too early for Luis Diaz and alerted Liverpool

 

The earlier you know whether to move onto another target the better.

If it goes to deadline day and Spurs lose out on him to Chelsea then what?

If they try in the next 24 hours and miss out then at least they have a little bit of time to move onto the next.

We should have moved on ages ago.

This really has been the window of obsessive fixations.

 

I hope we have a list of players who will actually improve us and we try right to the end to sign one or two of those and don't bother to move on to a cheaper option who won't make a difference.

 

A list which should have been drawn up and finalised before the season ended, and attempts to sign said players from the earliest point would be the ideal situation. But here were are, somehow, scrambling around, and having had long periods of the window where. We’ve done nothing, despite injuries.

 

But we signed Kudus and tried to sign Gibbs-White early on, went for Eze and still have two or three good targets left. Injuries are irrelevant...the value of the signings is independent of that given that Sarr, Bergvall and one of Johnson, Odobert and Tel are going to be the players displaced.

 

Simons and Ake, are the rumours this evening - the sources look dubious to me, I know nothing about Simons never been that impressed when seeing him play for the dutch, but Ake would be a good addition.
