My dad told me about one game at Sid James in the 60s (back when people went to Roker one week and there the next) when they were having one of their regular "sack the board" protests and the next thing he knew he saw a noose and a set of home made gallows appear in the main stand under the directors box with fans trying to get in there. He genuinely believed that if some of their idiots had got in there they'd have lynched members of the board in the ground. And I'll repeat, they only turned on Ashley after Keegan walked out because Ashley questioned why Keegan had rushed to pick Barton after he'd been released from prison.
