Their support base puts them up there with any team in the PL but it would take a long time for them to overhaul their squads, club structures etc for them to compete. But the longer they remain in a very uncompetitive SPL, the more they will decline. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Aberdeen and Dundee Utd could ever go toe to toe with top European teams. And Celtic’s triumph on the European Cup looks a complete anomaly now.
They were actually reasonably competitive lat year, but look hopeless this time and have barely signed anyone despite losing some better players
They didn't want to spend until Champions League football was confirmed, apparently. That's worked out brilliantly, hasn't it? Rodgers will be under pressure to do something now. They'll piss the league again, obviously, but they need more than that.
Newcastle tried to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen earlier in the week. West Ham are currently wishing that they'd succeeded.
Sudden urge to check Celtic's transfer spend compared to Kairat's and make a comment about what competitions they should be qualifying for...
Their board lack ambition with spending money imo but that team and squad should have had enough to qualify. Rodgers trophy record at Celtic over his two spells is very good but his signings are hit and miss. Plus he’s likely away at the end of the season so that’s maybe why they don’t want to back him as the new manager will want to rebuild.
They go to Ibrox on Sunday. That should be... interesting! Could be an early finish for Russell Martin if he blows that.
