He was class for Bournemouth last season but different style of football and different expectations. Bournemouth did really well but their average possession stat was one of the lowest in the Prem last season, along with Forest who also did well for similar reasons. Both teams were content to play counter-attacking football with quick, powerful wingers and a target man. Kerkez did well as an overlapping fullback for Bournemouth but in a more possession-heavy team like Liverpool, his weaknesses on the ball during build-up are more apparent.
Yep. Kerkez is similar to Giles. Great going forward but suspect defensively and not comfortable on the ball when building out from the back. It’s worth noting Bournemouth usually had a more defensive right-back playing to create a lopsided 3-2-5 shape in possession by having Kerkez get high and wide, the right-back tucked in as a third centre-back and the left-winger played really narrow. Liverpool have basically signed two fullbacks who are more like wingbacks. They’ve looked really exposed in both games this season. Kerkez and Frimpong aren’t great defensively and having them both play high and wide leaves huge gaps.
