And at the start of the window they were talking £1m for him. So £250k plus the same on potential add ons is a good result.
Pink'un suggesting Rowe's move to Bologna confirmed and we'll earn another £900k from the sell-on clause.
Long looks like moving to Southampton. They shouldn't have any problems with his wages. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/n...george-long-closing-in-on-southampton-switch/
Long move now confirmed on loan with no option to buy. At least his wages are taken care of for this season
Pleased for him; good character, nice fella. Knapper gave him the contract, that's where criticism should be directed.
Paul Clement was a big fan from what I can recall and recommended that we extend Longs deal last Summer, amongst some interest from another club - I can’t remember who now. Of course Long got the deal and Clement then left the club within a matter of a few months. Tony Roberts clearly hasn’t been impressed along with most of the fan base
Last year was a steep learning curve for Knapper, taking on a young and relatively inexperienced Head Coach and then recruiting 10 new players, mostly young, to suit the new approach. Once that unraveled he's had to do it again with a more experienced Head Coach and players to suit a new approach. This time the players are more experienced but there are still big adjustments and playing relationships to develop. The difference now is that there is less theory and more emphasis on establishing a winning mentality and deeper commitment in training and during games as the players gain experience. The second half against Boro showed that deeper commitment, which was too often lacking last season. Knapper knows this has to work now and he must be as concerned about the future as we are.
