Didn’t Blackmore say in a tweet someone posted on here that we sold over £100m worth of players (think it was £180m) last time we were relegated but only recorded something like £5m profit in the accounts? We’ve sold about half that this year so the whole “we don’t need to sell” may not be true. Plus the player won’t care about our need to sell, if they want out they will do what they can to get the move.

Something must’ve changed with Dibling for us to go back to Everton, maybe something changes with Fernandes

 

Taken isolated that looks like the case. But the circumstances then were also multiple years in the Premier League (I know more money, but more expenditure so less profit) and a huge drop in income. We balanced the books in that year, hardly spent at all last year and 'just took the money'. I think we are in a better state this time, so we may not need to sell.

I also take with a pinch of salt that we went back to Everton begging for them to buy. Also, maybe we let Dibling go because we have a nice £20m player lined up?

 

Yes but that was to do with the fact that the club spunked around £130 million net spend in the 2022/23 season, so needed to get that back when relegated.

As I said earlier, since last season up to today, we have had a net spend of around £8 - £10 million

 

Also our wage bill was around £67 million on the 2022/23 relegation season. We had an approximate wages of £55 million last season in the premier league, of which has been reduced down to around £35 million for this season, with a week to go.
These are more reasons why Fernandes does not need to be sold unless crazy money is offered. He isn’t going to lose valuation as we have 4 years left on his contract.

 

Also Everton’s opening bid was £27m….i have read the deal is worth £42m with add ons, so they definitely came back with an improved offer.

I think most of the stress and frustration from people like me comes from the fact that you are completely correct but it never seems to be the case with our ****ing club. You want our best players? Have ‘em. That seems to be our philosophy. I genuinely can’t remember the last time we actually kept hold of a much needed player or what is even more rare, the player actually wanting to stay. We’ve cultivated a culture where our best players expect to leave after a good spell of performances.

Just look at Sulemana and Dibling, two players who would have no doubt been great this season, they both had a good/decent half season and straight away they’re out the door at the earliest convienience.

 

Nobody thought we would keep KWP when we went down and we did. That’s one.

Was reading a few comments from Goztepe fans regarding the transfer of Juan. They’re all pretty convinced that they have paid way over the top due to the ownership, hence why the fee has been undisclosed. Several million is the guess by most of them as Juan is now highest paid player.

 

Yeah pretty much my point, that’s one. Obviously it’s an exaggeration on my part to say never there will be a couple who slip through the cracks but it’s never the best or the players we really need to keep or we might keep one and sell 3 others. For example yes we kept KWP but we lost JWP, Lavia and Tella that year too. And also correct me if I’m wrong KWP did want to go that season but we kinda made him stay, but I may be wrong there.

Either way it rarely happens. Our club just gets bullied by players who want to leave because the players look at 10 year history now of us doing the exact same thing for everyone else and go “well they all got their move so I’m going to”. I remember when we dug our heels in with Virgil VD and Schneiderlin and they essentially said I ain’t playing until you sell me and our club went “okayyy” while also selling every player under the Sun. I always like to remind people that in 3 seasons under Puel, Koeman and Poch we sold an entire first team of players and a few more on top, I’m pretty sure it was something like 14 first team players in 3 summer windows. That’s not ****ing normal.
