Keeper from Scotland and a Northern Irish left back. Both signed for the academy and we owe compo on.

    Can't remember their names, sorry.

Does compo count as a transfer fee? They are not the same thing.

It's still a fee. We can't pay fees under the fee restriction.

If it wasn't classed as one then there wouldn't be a resolution to be found.

Laaloui *should* be ratified but don’t think they’ll let us register. Supposedly off out on loan

Is that something you’ve heard? That’s something at least but it begs the question why the same doesn’t apply to Puerta i.e. the transfer is ratified but he can’t be registered.

May be the materiality of the transfer fee, plus the intention for Laaloui to stay whereas we were just going to flip Puerta, dunno.

Nearly 10x less of a fee probably makes a big difference. He supposedly told someone that’s what he’s doing. I hope it’s domestically so I can keep track easier

    It's all just a mess, isn't it?

The lack of transparency to the fans is appalling. We know the club have ****ed up, but why not just publish what can and can't happen.

The Puerta deal just seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen as well.

Fingers crossed it's a nearby club as well so he can get settled in the area.

Be tough for the lad to come over to England and spend a year down south then have to adjust to Hull the year after!

OK so now I'm a tad confused (more than normal), how is it the Puerta deal appears to have been vetoed and he was never our player, but Laaloui is allowed to go out in loan from us ? Surely either both get vetoed or both get authorised ? Something just doesn't add up here, is it possible we never really wanted to sign Puerta and were using the EFL as an excuse to not pay the agreed fee up front ? I honest don't know, but it does ring true we can sign one but can't sign the other !

    It is indeed a mess.

I just want it to end now, either way.

The 'Laws of the (EFL) game' are probably like law itself, unless you're a legal expert / lawyer / solicitor it doesn't always make sense, however much it appears it should to you and I, despite what ChatGp, AI and Not606 'conjectur my lud'...

A loan to Westerlo would make sense. Even though Antwerp is predominantly Dutch-speaking, a lot of people still know French. I’m not sure if Laalaoui can speak much English. His club interview was translated.

I suspect it's a case of we want to find a way to make the Laalaoui deal work, but are happy enough for the Puerta deal not to due to the salary differential (and also maybe because Puerta pretty clearly said he wanted to move on to 'better').

German tax office will be knocking on someone’s door wondering why there’s 2 months of income tax missing. HMRC will be wondering why the UK public purse is going to miss out on maybe ~£1m ish of tax, NI etc. Puerta will surely have had a pay rise with his new contract here, he’s not going to happily just wave that away and Leverkusen aren’t going to pick up the difference, so it’s not going to be as simple as him just going back to Leverkusen and that’s that. They’ve probably already spent the transfer fee they received anyway. Talk of €6m offers from Spain I am pretty certain are pie in the sky, if they were genuine he’d already be gone.

It would be nice for a journalist to actually do a bit of investigating around the matter and report some facts but I reckon it’s probably all still up in the air at the moment, as I’ve said previously I highly doubt the EFL rules are written for situations like this and there’s a whole load of grey area that lawyers are trying to interpret for a favourable resolution, so there’s probably not much facts to report.

It would be good if both players registrations were approved and we have them both in the squad this season. I think that’s the best outcome, and probably the easiest and most logical solution.

Agree. I can't see that the EFL are in the case of these 2 players helping anyone (the clubs involved, the players themselves).

Baz reporting this morning that "Puerta is understood to have returned to Bayer Leverkusen". Again, strange wording, surely it's not difficult to find out rather than saying "it's understood"

I don’t know any other profession where you automatically return to your previous employer with your previous salary and contract intact if it doesn’t work out at your new employer for whatever reason. If I leave my job and get a new one in a different country but after a few weeks it turns out I can’t work for my new employer, I don’t get my old job and salary back by default.
