As of next season due to the new UEFA regulations on finance and and licensing, all clubs will have to appoint a Supporters' Liaison Officer. Their job will be... http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/UEFA-to-enforce-need-for-supporter-liaison-officer.php Do we expect great things from this, or a shoe-in for Peter Lorimer and yet more bullshit? I hope that stewarding and policing can be dealt with, but hold no great hopes for bridges between supporters and club management to be built. The recent Regional Members' Club conference appears to have been a positive move in that direction, but ultimately we know and expect under Bates that the fans will be treated with contempt. Well done to UEFA by the way for passing these measures which have been badly needed for a long time.
I think it will almost certainly be Lorimer (which is hardly positive or a change), but the club can apparently be fined quite heavily if it doesn't comply with the stuff I quoted in the original post. So like I say, even if it's just stewarding and policing stuff that gets discussed, that's still a step forward.
yea thats fair enough but i woulda thought it would have to be someone who is a leader of a supporter's club or something more along those lines. Not somebody who is already there and fans are unhappy with surely. Although saying that, someone who is a leader of a supporter's club doesnt necessarily have any capabilities of doing anything anyway
Well it's the club who appoints them and officially, they'd be assigned to the club rather than to any supporters' group. So it wouldn't be Gary Cooper from LUST or Ray Fell from LUSC, both of which are organizations which Ken Bates has idiotically mocked to no end. Since Lorimer is already the so-called supporters' representative on the board of directors, I really can't see it being anyone else. Easy enough to spoon-feed information to and still well respected among the fans for his past achievements (and rightly so), which sadly means his party-line statements have gravitas. I'd hope Gary from LUST or their honorary chairman Nigel Martyn, as well as people from other supporters' groups and of course everyday fans, would have a role to play in speaking with the SLO if it does end up being Lorimer or a comparable Bates puppet.
