Good Morning. It's Monday 25th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Farke left his players susceptible and exposed

In the wake of the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal, questions marks will be raised over the sustainability of Daniel Farke as head coach. Whilst it's essential not to overreact to a single bad result, his approach to the game was naive, and it left his players susceptible and exposed.

Instead of frustrating the opposition, slowing the game down, disrupting rhythm and interrupting play; Leeds decided to go toe to toe against one of Europe's elite - it was always going to be a suicide mission! We constantly see teams at the wrong end of the table adopt these tactics, whilst it's not pretty, the effectiveness could keep the Whites in the top flight!

It wasn't long ago that teams like Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest were in the same position as us, and look where they are now! Both took the ruthless approach to sack their respective managers when better options became available, despite relative safety from relegation.

The question now becomes whether Leeds should consider replacing Farke, even if he manages to keep us up? While it is essential to give credit where it is due, we must consider the long-term future of the club.

    James Justin set to sign

James  Justin is set to seal his £8 million move (with a further £2 million in add‑ons) from Leicester City to Leeds United today after passing his medical over the weekend.

The 27‑year‑old England‑capped full‑back brings a rare blend of defensive solidity and attacking flair, having logged 36 Premier League appearances for Leicester last season and contributed two goals and two assists. What truly sets Justin apart is his versatility: although his natural position is right‑back, he has comfortably slotted in at left‑back, central midfield, right midfield and even left wing during his tenure at Luton Town and Leicester.

This flexibility gives Leeds a valuable option on both flanks, a quality that will be vital as the club seeks to cement its place in the top flight after a recent promotion. In addition to his positional adaptability, Justin arrives with nearly 100 Premier League games under his belt, meaning he knows the pressure of fighting both relegation and survival.

Leeds have already bolstered their squad with signings such as Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert‑Lewin, Lukas Nmecha, Lucas Perri, Lukas Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff. Justin's arrival also triggers the loan of Isaac Schmidt to Werder Bremen, which includes an option to buy.

    Tanaka injury blow

Leeds fans face an anxious wait to find out the severity of Ao Tanaka's knee injury sustained during their trip to the Emirates at the weekend. Manager Daniel Farke shed some light on the situation, revealing that the Japanese International experienced issues with his MCL (medial collateral ligament) following a first-half tackle.

This setback comes at a particularly challenging time for the Whites, especially in the midfield department. Skipper Ethan Ampadu is already facing a month on the sidelines with similar MCL damage, leaving a significant void in the squad's central core.

“After a tackle in the first half, he had problems with his MCL (medial collateral ligament). “He kept going and I hope it’s not too bad. I hope the assessment is not too bad. There are a few concerns that it would be an injury but it’s normally positive that he could play further on. But we will have to assess him and we will see how long it takes to get him fit and back to full fitness.”

    Adios Largie

Largie Ramazani’s time at Leeds United appears to be drawing to a close, with widespread speculation linking the Belgian winger with a move to Spain. Despite endearing himself to the Elland Road faithful , Ramazani faced significant challenges in securing regular first-team football, fuelling rumours about his relationship with Daniel Farke.

The recent acquisition of Noah Okafor, which marks Leeds United’s ninth summer addition, seemingly represents the final nail in the coffin for the 24yo. His conspicuous absence from the Leeds squad that travelled to face Arsenal this weekend further solidified these reports, with various Spanish outlets insisting that Ramazani is on the verge of completing a switch to La Liga giants Valencia.

Details emerging from Spain suggest the deal is structured as an initial free loan, with Valencia retaining an option to make the move permanent next summer. This prospective transfer offers Ramazani a fresh start and the intriguing prospect of reuniting with former Leeds assistant manager Carlos Corberan, who now manages at the Mestalla Stadium.

There’s no room for sentiment in the top flight. We have to look at the leadership.

Ell, you may have been part of getting us up last season but football is all about delivering results. And if your Breakfast debate is not delivering in the Prem. we’ll have to look around for someone who can spout drivel of a Premier league standard to take us forwards.

(id do it, but I’ve got a bad back).

    Morning all,

So i was one of the big advocates at the end of last season for getting rid of Farke has i could see his limitations at the top level.

When the club gave him their support I said I would as well hoping to be proved wrong.

Now I'm not gonna have a knee jerk reaction but that was definitely the first step towards my calling for his head.

I never expected to win against Arsenal. I was looking for a performance against a title contender.

In my opinion because of the team selection and tactics we never got a chance to see it. We were hobbled before we started.

Why spend £90+ million to improve the team only to throw out what was basically a championship team?

When it was obvious that it wasn't working why did Farke, again, be so slow to change things?

I need to see how Farke reacts on Saturday.

Fine get rid of Farke. Great move. Who do we replace him with. Some second rate out of work coach because that’s all that’s coming to a lower pl team. The better ones will wait for the big gigs

We like to tease ell that his ‘scoops’ are sometimes a little behind the times. On this occasion he’s insightfully ahead of the game with the ‘sack Farke even if he keeps us up line’

    Good morning everyone :(
Yes, Saturday’s result can be put squarely on the shoulders of Farke for setting up the outfield players like that but tactics/personnel can be changed and we won’t see such an abysmal performance again, however a goalkeeper has one important job and that’s to keep the ball out of his net, I had no idea what Perri was like, unfortunately, what I saw admittedly only on MOTD, had me recalling last season with Meslier. You can now probably guess what I am going to say next and that’s the first name on my the team sheet against Newcastle would be Darlow, ex club would be something he would enjoy. Is he the best keeper we have got? Ask Craig Bellamy.

Everyone knows I have no time for FARKE but seems a bit early to want him sacked. My view is that he has earned the right to prove he can compete at the top level and having backed him in the transfer market especially if we bring some forwards in this week. Farke deserves to implement his style and tactics. It will become obvious before Xmas one way or the other. So for me I hope he does what we all want him to do

    Morning all

It didn’t feel like we tried to go toe to toe with Arsenal, I’m not exactly sure what we tried but it was painful viewing

Can’t have a knee jerk, Arsenal will manage more 5-0 wins this season and it’s the team Farke built, we’d struggle at the moment to attract anyone better

And a timely reminder whoever the coach is we have several more mailings ahead hopefully interspersed with a few Everton like wins so get used to it and save your fingers after each one trying to figure how it happened. You all wanted this remember

Disappointed about Saturday’s performance. Didn’t expect a favourable result but thought we’d put up more fight. The last 2 seasons have made me largely forget how poor the weekend is, following a poor showing.

More than anything I don’t understand how Longstaff/Okafor and to a lesser degree Nmecha all look knackered within a few minutes of being brought on. I suppose with Nmecha he just looks ungainly, which doesn’t help.

Think Saturday confirmed worries I had about Tanaka at this level. Think he gets caught in possession too much for me. It was a worry I had at times, last year, but shows up more at this level.

Think for those doubting the DCL signing, this perhaps shows why we need someone like him.

Id have Darlow in as soon as. Was surprised he didn’t get the gig in our first match, but suppose we weren’t gonna sign Perri for the bench. Every team will press our keeper now from the off.

Just hope the club learn from this trouncing.

We just got rinsed at arsenal after winning our first game.

Sack the manager! Now! He played a player I don’t rate, he’s got rid of largie, he tried to go toe to toe when they have more toes than us. SACK HIM SACK HIM.

glad we’ve all calmed down and reflected to avoid jerking our knees or any other parts of our anatomy.

On a more serious note. The set up this season with an extra midfielder is meant to give us more solidity. To some degree it did, they didn’t carve us open. What it also does is limit our attacking ability - and it was on the ball we really struggled. Personally I don’t really think the set up made much difference in that respect on the day. If the pace of the press forces errors you need to go long… that’s where you need outlets and where Gary Neville was right… we didn’t have a front 3 we could go long to. We’d have been second best whoever we played and whatever we tried… but our problems with high pressing teams go back a long time and we need to find solutions to it.

I don't think there has been much knee reaction on here, twitter yes, but I'm seeing people making his points about concerns many of us had at the end of last season and going into this one.

Like I said I'm backing the manager and hope that what he is doing works. But that doesn't stop me seeing with my own eyes some of the issues that we were worried about.

Yes it was Arsenal. A team that has finished 2nd two years in a row and have improved my £250 million, we can't compete, but that doesn't mean we can't see some things that are wrong.

This week will see some players who get hate Mail going forward. What do I mean by that, well Bamford, Gyabi, Greenwood, Meslier have all dug their heels in with some refusing moves. Rather than help the club by moving which would have given us a profit however small under PSR, they are refusing to go and hoping they get either bought out of their last year or loaned out for the season therefore giving them a free transfer next season which boosts their earning potential. I blame Orta and Kinnear but I also can’t understand why new clubs were not already lined up for these players by the end of last season. Joffy turned down a Rangers move that would see us get a profit but he got his wish of a loan to Hull and that means he’s a free agent next season quids in

id have picked a different team but its way too early to suggest it would make any difference… we didn’t go hung Ho and get caught on the break naively. We couldn’t keep the ball long enough for that to happen. We did get done in transition for the second. Our players weren’t/aren’t good enough to deal with the arsenal press. They’re better player for player in every position.

I’ve shared concerns about our ability to handle high pressing teams in the past and it remains my biggest concern tactically… but the main worry for me is the standard of the players… we need to hope the new guys are actually a level up on what we had and will make a difference when integrated.

unlike some I thought we’d shopped at Poundland all summer, and didn’t share the enthusiasm some have shown. There have been calculated gambles on ‘talent’ with injury troubles. Time will tell - I’ll reserve judgement for 10 games

Doc, I’m LUFC through and through but cannot see an issue with any of those players. How do you know they’ve refused a move?. If they did, perhaps it was because it didn’t suit them, for whatever reason.
I don’t blame Joffy for not fancying Rangers, even though I understand we’ve likely lost money on the outcome.

They are all contracted to the club, not aware any have refused to train or play for us. We no longer want them. Until the club and player find a suitable buyer we’re stuck with them. Sorry but it’s not their fault

So assuming Farke should be shown the door after that drubbing, does that mean we sack the manager after every drubbing. 49ers wont be long about going bankrupt in that case
