If that’s the whole point, then you’re actually proving what I said. A footballer must always be under contract somewhere – otherwise they’re not employed at all. If Puerta and Laalaoui aren’t registered to play for City, then who is paying their wages? Either another club employs them, or they’re out of contract. You can’t have it both ways. MoH
Is that your point? "somebody is something unless they are not"? Nobody has to pay their wages City could be even if they are not registered to play for City Somebody might be but it doesnt mean they are registered with them
That’s not what I’m saying at all. A player is either employed or he isn’t – there isn’t a middle ground. If City are paying Puerta and Laalaoui, then City employ them, registered or not. If another club is paying them, then that club employs them. If nobody is paying them, they’re out of contract. Registration decides who they can play for, not who their employer is. MoH
Just because somebody pays them it doesnt mean they employ them the question is "do they have a contract of employment?" they could be self employed it all depends on the circumstances
If they’re getting paid, then there’s some form of contract in place… otherwise it’s just money for nothing. Footballers aren’t self-employed, they’re contracted to clubs. That’s why their registration, wages, and transfers are all tied to an employer. So yes, the key question is exactly that: do they have a contract of employment, and with who? MoH
sometimes there is money for nothing the players could go play for another club any time if there's no contract I think they have a contract of employment with City but they cant play for them in competitive matches
It all comes down to timing. If Hull paid Leverkusen and completed the deal before the embargo, then Puerta is our player – even if the EFL refuse to register him, Hull could still sell him abroad. But if the payment wasn’t made or the transfer wasn’t fully processed before the embargo hit, then he’s still Leverkusen’s player and we have no rights to move him on. MoH
