It's been found out quicker than it arrived. PSG for example, at kick off, boot the ball out of play as high up the pitch as possible, squeezing the opposition from the off. Barcelona have even reverted to a more direct goal kick. Playing out from the back just makes the pitch bigger, offsides less likely and adds pressure as soon as it ****s up. That Morgan pass today isn't coached or instructed, it surely can't be.
I'm not saying sack him, it was sarcasm. We will never know if he's a good coach or not due to interference from above
They aren't his players, but I don't believe for a minute that he's being told who to pick each week.. He's supposed to be a good coach, but appears clueless. And then there's Bould .......
There's the Nardi situation, there's the carabau cup situation. He's definitely being told what formation & style he has to play, that's not even in question
Dictating formation and style is not unreasonable, it seems to me. Continuity is important, managers will come and go. Suggesting that he's being told who to pick seems ridiculous to me, though. A good manager/coach should be able to work with what he's given.
It depends who's doing the dictating doesn't it? You wouldn't begrudge a seasoned pro, vastly experienced with some credentials doing so. The players are bought, the formation and style dictated. Stephan can put the cones out.
Here's a group of players. This is the style in which we would like them to play, because all of the development teams will be employing this style. Now we'd like you to use your coaching skills to get to the best out of them. Not unreasonable, I'd say.
Not just the style but the formation. I would say it's unreasonable and I don't think there will be another club in the league who implements such restrictions on their coach. I wonder if he has to get permission to make subs or alter the formation during a game. One thing we can surely agree on, whatever the circumstances, it isn't ****ing working!
We have similar instructions where I coach. I don't select the players but as a collective of coaches, we implement the formation but it's not so much results based, it's all about player development. A first team at professional level is all about results first and foremost, anything under the first team is about development.
To suggest that he's told who to pick or what subs he can make just seems ridiculous to me. Plainly it's not working, but I suspect it's because Stephan isn't up to the job.
Surely, we can never be at the “Bring back Gareth “ stage but with Stephan, maybe it shows that at least Marti had a clue.
Possibly, no doubt it will all come out in the future. Just hope we are not division 1 or 2 by the time it does.
I remember reading that Walsh was to be number 1 whilst we were still interviewing candidates for the job. You're correct, it would be ridiculous to tell the coach who to pick but thats just an example. There is absolutely no flexibility in the shape of the team. I used to think it was because Cifuentes was a stubborn **** but I'm thinking it's because the instructions come from above. It's a recipe for disaster. There will be more results like today I'm afraid. Infact Watford should have had 5 or 6 themselves against us.
At the fans forum, the best question was left until last. Do you have a plan 'b' if this doesn't work. I think it's about time we acted upon it. Starting with letting the manager implement his own formation and style.
Surely the manager/coach picks the team and implements the style of football formation and tactics? Otherwise what is the point of having a manager or coach. If this is the case it's a completely bonkers way to run a club.
I'm glad I missed following that debacle today due to work. Phone kept pinging. I might volunteer every Saturday if performances/results like that keep coming.
QPR head coach Julien Stephan told BBC London: "This is a big challenge. This is the first time in my career I have to deal with a score like this, but in football you learn a lot. im sure every QPR coach in the last 15 years has come out with those words. We can always help them find those low points in their careers
Clive, who is relatively ITK, has alluded to this. The theory is similar at lots of clubs that you have a way of playing, a preferred formation etc. (a model) and you bring in coaches (not managers) who fit into that style and have a say but not all the say in which players are brought in to complement that. Then the day-to-day training and actual team selection is down to the head coach. He’s suggested a few times now Stephan’s power is limited far more than is normal and is, for want of a better phrase, a patsy. But, the signings were generally popular. The team picked today was pretty close to what we’d have all picked with what was available. Who is accountable for the fitness, the sheer lack of application on the pitch, the lack of basic ability in players we know can play? I don’t honestly know but I suspect there are people responsible for the car crash so far who we know little about and see even less. But… a big but… it’s three games. Two appalling games and one poor one but just three. It’s not six points from 15 games, needing playoff form to stay up. It might well become that but isn’t yet. We’ve no choice but pray whichever ****s are in charge sort it out quickly and there is some grand plan. I doubt there is but it is three games.
