On the whole I thought the ref had a good game although he was wrong about the Lundstram "foul".
He gave a goal kick for the deflection from Palmer's shot and then when players objected he blew for half time!

I thought he was awful - whistle happy and pedantic. I also thought he must have travelled on the Blackburn coach - so much to the point where they passed the ball to him twice in a row <laugh>

The ball had long gone when the ref blew up. He reacted far too easily to the Blackburn player rolling on the floor. TBH I thought he was poor. Didn't get out of the way twice and gave some baffling throw-ins. Pulled us up at 0-0 when we were heading into the box for a free kick to us...They might as well introduce robots now and take the human element out of it. Perhaps he's the secret prototype.

I thought he was horrendous. First 10 minutes he was ok waving on minimal contact. The next 80 minutes he was waiting for any excuse to blow up. It was like he was anticipating the contact and blowing anyway. Their first two goals they weren’t fouls, and his general decision making was consistently awful.

Like I said he wasn’t the reason we lost, but he was as bad as us to be honest.

I’ve not blamed the ref. It’s 100% on us. He was terrible, as was the bloke reffing the game we won last week.

If the ref has a decent game I will say so.

When no-one notices him. He was the centre of attention from the very first minute with his high pitched whistle which could be heard all around the stadium. The free kick count was 37 apparently, I thought it was more than that. The first dubious free kick in the second half which led to the goal came within a minute of the restart then he went nearly 15 minutes without giving one, which tells me he knew he'd dropped a blob.

exactly this. I don't blame him for us losing but he was the most over officious ref, 3 times he blew for a free kick for us when we had the ****ing ball, he bought every single dive from blackburn and got the lundstram foul completely wrong, I mean if he genuinely thought it was a foul then he should have been showing lundstram a second yellow card for diving in, even in the last 2 mins of the game, 3 down game over he's wasting time wanting to tell 2 players off. Complete nonsense of a ref.

Just got home from a decent drinking session around the old town, first of all I thought Blackburn closed us down much quicker than Oxford, they didn’t give us the same space to move around in. Yes there was a spell in the first half where we made their keeper make three decent saves but once they scored their second it was game over, When you lose a few key players like we did today it really shows how difficult it will be. Move on to the next game and for me after last week it shows with a decent team out we can be good enough to stay up but at the same time lose a few decent players and it’s a struggle. Early days though so let’s see how we go.

    In a nutshell

Football fans blame the referee because they offer a convenient target for frustration when a team loses, their perspective is often skewed by confirmation bias, they see plays from different angles and in slow motion with technology, and referees, like all humans, make mistakes. A strong emotional connection to their team also makes it harder for fans to accept the possibility of their own team being at fault, leading them to focus on any perceived officiating errors.
    Psychological Factors
    • Confirmation bias:
Fans tend to see calls that go against their team as wrong and calls in their favor as correct, reinforcing their belief that the referee is biased against them.
    • Emotional investment:
The strong emotional connection fans have to their team makes it difficult to accept that their team's loss was due to their own shortcomings, making the referee an easy scapegoat.
    Positional & Technological Differences
    • Limited view:
Referees are focused on being in the right position to call specific infractions, but they have a limited field of vision compared to the entire pitch.
    • Instant replay:
Modern technology, such as slow-motion and multi-angle replays, gives fans at home a clearer view of incidents than the official has in real-time, leading to more scrutiny of calls.
    Human Error
    • Fallibility:
Referees are human beings, and like all people, they are prone to making mistakes.
    • Judgment calls:
Many referee decisions involve a degree of interpretation and judgment, which can lead to disagreement and perceived errors, even when the referee has years of experience.

The better team won today, the referee had a below average game and I'm sure he'd probably agree with that. Oh, and that seems to be a Coco de mer shell. :emoticon-0138-think

Problem is every team loses a few key players throughout a season. The subs bench is worryingly full of kids every early season, but to have no midfielders or central defenders (apart from kids).. and four wingers …. shows how many we are short.

Not sure if it was a free kick for their 2nd goal as I haven't seen it shown on
any of the replays but the marking was absolutely shocking

I'm really hoping this was a one-off performance
