It's surely obvious to everyone that Wagner is not the future. Those three results may have "kept us in touch with the top six", but also highlighted how far off being genuine top six quality we currently are. Our increasingly heard sobriquet is "Worst coached team in the Championship". We rely on individual moments of inspiration to compensate for our collective lack of effective process. Bristol Rovers's manager Matt Taylor has already fielded two different, better coached if less talented, teams, against us this season; he is yet to lose to us. Whoever Knapper has in his sights as a replacement for Wagner is almost certainly tied up elsewhere and unlikely to be available before the summer. That means an interim appointment if Wagner goes. We have a capable candidate already at the club, Narcís Pèlach. He's managed in the Spanish second tier, was assistant to Corberan at Huddersfield; and then had two short spells as interim manager after Corberan resigned and later when Fotheringham was sacked. It was even suggested he was being lined up as Wagner's replacement when he joined. Officially, we brought him in as defensive coach, so presumably he has had some part in halving our previously awful record of conceding 2 goals a game. We are not going to be promoted; we are not going to be relegated. Why not let NP have a go at fashioning a team from our current struggling collection of individuals?
Anyone else getting a similar feeling to when Lambert took over? The transfer window has been well utilised to get rid of those not with the program, get our youngsters out for some loan experience and some decent signings in. Today feels like a springboard moment to me.
You have to question the team he's picking. Wright instead of Nunez Stacey instead of Fisher Sticking with Medic after being burnt numerous times by his inability to turn or accelerate Crnac or Diallo instead of Kvistgaarden (its ridiculous hes not starting)
Isn’t Nunez injured? And while I agree re Fisher vs Stacey the fact is Fisher is not really a wide man in a 5 at the back formation, his strength is defensive. Kvistgaarden agree, but that seems to be a fitness issue. I think the issue is less the choice of players and more stylistic
Wright instead of Nunez - Nunez is in injured, out until after the international break having had to come off injured against Portsmouth, NOT because Manning decided to change tactics. Stacey instead of Fisher. Fisher is not a wing back and lacks the ability to put in a decent cross or indeed to play the ball forward most of the time. Sticking with Medic after being burnt numerous times by his inability to turn or accelerate. Possibly, but I'd be inclined to give him more time to adapt to the pace of this league. If we are going with 3 CB's I'm struggling to see a better option. Crnac or Diallo instead of Kvistgaarden (its ridiculous hes not starting). Not sure Kvistgaarden is fully fit, but if he is I'd start him instead of Crnac. I'm sure Manning has much more information available to him than we do.
He thought Wright was initially the better option which says alot. Then don't play wing backs. 6 goals conceded in 4 games. Im not against 3 centrebacks, Darling is an exceptional player, if not for him we would be looking at 8 or 9. Medic is a liability, he can't turn, he has slow feet. So go 4 5 1 and keep the ball rather than this crappy wing back system which is neither good going forward or back and means we keep giving the ball away. Good football teams control the centre. The outside options are the cherry on top, unfortunately this squad is wide heavy with no back up for Nunez or McLean (I suppose Wright may be seen as a McLean replacement)
[QUOTE="carrabuh, post: 18610143, member: 1001328" Then don't play wing backs. 6 goals conceded in 4 games [/QUOTE] We gave Thorup the best part of a season to try things his way. How comes Manning only gets 4 games ? It will take time. A little patience might help.
