Has this happened to you ? Last night, a nephew ( STH ), attended the game.... As almost always, he was selected for a bag search... where the jobsworthy steward saw that he had an apple, a bag of crisps and an small bar of chocolate - as his normal half time snack. The steward told him that from Sturday's game, supporters will not be permitted to bring into the ground any foodstuffs -- and that fans requiring snacks must purchase them from the available outlets inside the ground ! I have checked the Ground Regulations in the Club's Official website..... There are 29 Regulations ( with some sub-sections. ) NONE of them refer to consumables which relate to common foodstuffs.... They mention alcohol not brought into the ground - and the obvious mention of drugs ( other than medically prescribed. ) I would be interested to know if anyone else had been searched - and given the same nonsense by the steward (( who are unable to detect smoke flares !!! )) I always bring an apple for half time ((( sometimes it is the highlight of the game. ))) - I think brb can guess what would happen if a steward told me I couldn't enter the ground with my granny Smith (( I actually prefer Braeburn apples. ))...... My brother ( nephew's dad ), has emailed the Club for clarification..... I told him that he could expect a reply some time after we next score 4 goals.
I'd seen something on Twitter with some fan can't remember who mentioning this about taking food in the ground, has this come as a consequence of some fans throwing food?
Tuck in ! My brother didn't get a reply to his email.... He phoned the Club - got bounced around the tea ladies - before the line went dead ! At the match, I happened to bump into A senior Safety Steward.. .Naturally I raised the foodstuffs subject... I was told that, initially, the decision to ban food etc was done for commercial reasons... BUT - then common-sense prevailed... after a Club meeting they have decided to scrap the 'ban.' - and that ( within reason ), any food & drink can be brought into the ground..... I asked about half-eaten kebabs in plastic trays = '' NO problem.''
Ah good to know. I think people like to take their own stuff to save a few pounds, which makes sense, not everyone can afford the kiosk prices, especially if you take your kids as well. Also at HT the queues are lengthy so it's easier to take along your own drink.
