    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 23 August 2025
    Kick off - 12:30pm

Following their deserved 1-0 home win over Sheffield United, next up for Alan Sheehan’s Swansea squad is another Championship home match, this time against Watford.

Last Saturday, the Swans picked up their first win of the Championship season as they made it two defeats from two for Sheffield United.

The hosts controlled much of the first half but failed to turn their plentiful possession into a lead.

The Swans eventually made the breakthrough after the interval as Ronald latched on to a loose ball in the penalty area and stroked a fine first-time finish into the bottom corner.

The Swans could have scored more - substitute Melker Widell firing the best of their second-half chances narrowly wide – and were worthy winners against their blunt opponents.

The Blades, last season's beaten play-off finalists, offered little in attack as new head coach Ruben Selles suffered a third defeat from three matches in all competitions.

Whilst the Swans were beating the Blades, Luca Kjerrumgaard scored twice as Watford beat QPR to give Paulo Pezzolano his first win as Hornets head coach.

Kjerrumgaard, signed on loan from Italian club Udinese this summer, netted his first goals in English football, pouncing twice in the space of four first-half minutes.

It proved decisive for Watford, who ended the match with 10 men after Imran Louza was sent off in the final couple of minutes for a crude challenge on Jonathan Varane.

Kieran Morgan's thumping strike in first-half stoppage time gave Rangers hope, but they were unable to find an equaliser and are yet to win under new boss Julien Stephan.

The Swans have played Watford on 57 previous occasions winning 26, losing 20 and drawing 11.

In the corresponding match last season, the Swans ran out 1-0 winners:

During the week, the Swans completed the signing of Marko Stamenić from Nottm Forest and he is expected to add ‘height & physicality’ to the midfield, which has seemingly now become an area of strength for the Swans. However, the squad is crying out for a quality striker - hopefully, one can be secured before the end of the transfer window.

Turning to Saturday, I’m hoping that the Swans can repeat last season’s victory, although this time I’m going for a 2-1 home win. <cheers>

I think this one had draw written all over it, hopefully I'm wrong of course but for now I'll say 1 - 1.

We may have numbers in the midfield but we've got little control through midfield, seems to me like we bypass it most of the time. Hopefully this improves.

I think that if we can find a regular goal scorer we could challenge for the play offs.

I’m wondering if he is going to play 4 in midfield - Franco, Stamenic, Galbraith and Yalcouye with Ronaldo and Cullen up top.

Off the bench they’ve got Casey, Fulton, Widell, Inoussa, Eom, Wales, Cooper, Sam Parker and Vipotnik.

    Pretty strong bench that <cheers>

I didn’t do well with predicting the first game, but with this one I’m going for a 2-0 win for the Swans. I think we have got the side to challenge the top 6 providing we get a goal scorer in the coming week or so.

Not sure what commentary i've got but one thinks Ronald's a striker and hopefully could get 20 goals this season!

Tedious stuff so far. Great save to keep us at 0 - 0.

Why does Cullen always stand so far offside at set pieces?

It's been coming, we've got nothing going forward. If we don't start playing we'll lose this with a whimper.

A proper striker would have run on to that ball from Yalcouyé

Where's the spirit from the end of last season where we went all out to win games. Just no shape at the moment.

Watford are playing a disruptive game and are succeeding in stopping us playing. We have to be much quicker on the ball.
Wales on for Cullen and I expect to see Stamenic and Inoussa

Better since the subs but also more of an open game but have to go for it. Fingers crossed.
