Okay, I have gone through the remaining fixtures and predict we will pick up another 39 points to give us a total of 69. Will this be enough to make the play offs?
Yeah as Wizard says. If it stays how it is (I.e. 12 teams with a realistic shout of play-offs) then that should be enough. BUT as we know the league will become more and more stretched. 69 points has been enough before, but not usually and certainly not recently (I think off the top of my head)
I would be AMAZED if we get play offs without signing a winger or two (sign Jimmy Kebe and Andros Townsend on loan) and maybe a Striker on loan, someone like Nathan Delfouneso (a bit similar to Beckford).
We made the play-offs before with the same midfield, so it is possible to make it with our current team. But further signings in Jan seem a given.
The last time a team made the play offs from this division with 69 points was in 1990/91 season when Oldham Athletic were champions, that should give you an idea of how rarely it happens and the quality the teams have to be for it to happen. Btw Donny 2-1 Leicester on Saturday
In all seriousness thats not enough. Penshawdave runs a thread on the leeds board which shows how many points you need at any given time in the season to be reaching your targets of autos, play-offs and so on. It also shows what the amount of points at the end of the season is needed compared to the last few years so that it can be judged from that, good thread to read to compare where your club is and the points tally that you need to be hitting during milestones in a season. In short, last year 76 points was required to sneak into the play-offs and you would have 36 points after 22 games to be on track for that. (Bearing in mind thats to sneak into the play-offs)
Not only does this guy know alot about the past he also has a crystal ball and can see into the future
I think 70 points is the lowest it has been in the last few seasons. 73 - 75 seems to have been the requirement to nick 6th place and the final play off spot in recent seasons. You know what this league is like, someone in the bottom half of the table could go on a run after January and nick that 6th spot. If you're aiming to be safely in the play-off positions then you'll need more than 69 points!
Crystal Palace done it years ago had a great run and nicked 6th and got promoted. Reading went on a run last season 6th place is still open for lots of teams. The only 2 you can rule out is Cov and Donny
dont forget that Blackpool also did the same thing 2 season ago. i also think that you can now rule out the bottom 8 clubs form the play-offs.
