I'll be very interested to see the opening show on Mojo Ego in the opener at Cartmel (7/2 fav on the Sporting Life tissue). A good 2nd last time was the first time he'd shown anything for ages (first time blinkers obviously did the trick) and, whilst that race was a right rogues gallery, he is upped just 1lb and the yard have put 10lb claimer Leah Noreci on board. The blinkers are retained and young Leah has a great chance of riding her first winner for 2 years <ok>

It could be a memorable day for Leah as she has good chances in the 2nd division of the conditionals handicap hurdle on Mr Rumbalicious (16/1 on Sporting Life tissue). He has a similar profile to Mojo Ego and, after a promising 2nd in June, ran over too far last time.

Mojo Ego easy to back this morning, out from 7/2 to 5/1. Mr Rumbalicious opened at a general 8/1 yesterday and has been smashed into 3/1 fav this morning. I've had win singles and an e/w double. Gwaaaaaaaaan Leah <cheers>

I have pretty much given up on York for this year. Record prize money but nobody wants to try and win it except the handicaps.

Another crappy Saturday card at HQ: two Class 5s, two Class 4s, a five runner Class 3 and a 20 runner sales race.

    So to Goodwood...

My initial look at the 2.05 handicap came to be right when I trawled through the form. Zoulu Chief’s best effort this term was last time, after being gelded, but now steps up a furlong in a hotter race. Principality won over a mile here last time on easy ground but drops a furlong in a hotter race so there are others preferred. Gorak was third at this distance last time but is on a long losing streak, as is Billyjoh. Royal Zabeel has to give weight away all around off a mark of 104 after winning at HQ a couple of weeks ago. Purosangue has not won in two years and would probably prefer it to rain to help him here. Roscolyn won this two years ago and likes the track. His claimer offsets his rise for winning over a mile here last time and he looks a danger for David O’Meara. The other O’Meara runner, Darkness, looks up against it having not troubled the judge in three starts since winning an ordinary race at Thirsk. Palmar Bay has won two of four this year and should go well although this looks hotter than his latest Chester victory. Three year old Back In Black has not been seen since winning on his return at Newbury but clearly goes well fresh and is a danger with not many miles on the clock. The two that most interest me are on a hat trick. Great Acclaim won at Chepstow last time and had Billyjoh behind over course and distance before that. He looks sure to go well; however, MUDBIR won his third race of the year last time over course and distance. The bad news from my point of view is my jinx jockey in the saddle because of the ownership. Maybe a reverse forecast on Great Acclaim and Mudbir is the solution...

I've always been a sucker for a handsome chestnut with a couple of white socks ................. especially when carrying Saeed Manana's colours

3.35 York Ebor Handicap Majestic Warrior 11/1

This half-brother to 2020 Ebor winner Fujairi Prince overcame a nearly 2-year absence in April when readily taking a class 3 handicap over 12 furlongs at Thirsk by 4 lengths. Running off a mark of 89, he was giving the 2nd, Knightswood, 7lbs and that one has subsequently won twice and is now rated 89. You'd expect Majestic Warrior to progress from what was only his 4th career start and his current mark of 98 looks pretty lenient to me. Lack of experience is a concern but hopefully he has enough in hand to overcome that.

They can't give Maranoa Charlie away but the trainer has said he will like the ground and he's a speedy sort. Sounds like they might hold him up today

Rosallion is the class but maybe 7F at York may be a bit sharp.

    MARANOA CHARLIE 12/1

There seem to be a good few that have improved dramatically for leaving Michael Stoute... slow burners maybe..
