This is exactly what the article is saying. You are literally grandstanding (as a member of the left or defender of, lets say) by saying the right does not question the past. But you admit in your first line that the left see everything as an either/or (black and white) no nuance, no grey, no understanding of inbetween. So you think the right do not question the past? Why? What makes you think that the right doesn't question the past? Do you think all the palaces, the castles, the monuments should be dismantled and removed? Is that questioning the past or trying to eliminate it? Do you not think having these things in place encourages people to understand their history? Why they are there? Just as a monument being raised for.........say, Mary Seacole might encourage people to find out who she was and why that monument was raised? Do you see all these monuments in this present time as a celebration of their lives or as just history for good or bad! People can feel proud of their history at the same time as being disgusted by some parts of it but of course that does not fit into the black and white concept! So of course you can't feel proud of your country's history while at the same time feeling by disgusted by some elements of it! either/or. Personally I'm not a monument defender. I'm more against it because of the spread. Same people who want these monuments removed seem to want to replace them with their own icons! Some like Mary Seacole who they have a revised history to pass her off as a nurse when if you actually read more about her the story is just as "mercenary" as the monuments we currently have! So remove all the monuments? Doesn't really bother me personally but not replace them with different icons with revised histories, nor current icons only to remove them in a decade when something bad about them happens. Gandhi can have his removed for being the racist he was. Remove them all and not replace them Change all the road names to US style with 1st avenue block 5 etc. No way to get angry at numbers. Get rid of all the Roman, Saxon, Viking, Norman influenced towns and cities. All oppressive invaders that pushed the Britons out. reparations for the Britons. Bring St Patrick back the UK. The Irish slave traders that kidnapped him should have their family trees traced and we want some money back for that too. Send Meloni an invoice for what the Romans did to us and then send Macron one for the Normans and it can be up to him to charge the vikings for that one. Point being; where does this all end? When does this history of a nation stop being the responsibility of those that now live in the country? Are any of us guilty? Even if it turned out 200 years back in the line someone in your ancestry made a load out of slavery, does that make you personally guiilty? This is 2025 not 1775. While most people have a voice and a vote now, so the attitudes and opinions that are spoken of now represent the whole a lot more than back then (although they seem to be wanting to put that back in the box) the whole "attitudes and opinions" back in that age basically was represented by those with means and methods! Not the whole. The whole didn't have much voice at all!

At least I admitted that I can be guilty of "adding things in" mistakenly I might add whereas you seemingly think "the right make up things we say" when yesterday multiple times you replied to my posts with things I did not say just because your mindseye wanted to believe that was what I meant!
