Is there a bigger indictment of our scouting than paying £55m+ for a player wolves paid £23m for about 5 weeks ago.
It doesn't matter how long it takes provided it's the right one. I'd rather go until Xmas or next summer than get it wrong.
Justa load of news papers and a few fan sites talking about it, absolutely no one with credibility has mentioned it.
The only reason I really hope it goes through is cos Roland is on record bitching about it and he'd have to do his usual 180 **** when he's inevitably wrong.
Didn’t say he was good or bad, just said it’s an indictment of the scouting if we end up paying £55m+ for a player who cost less than half that a month ago.
People saying we've had a good transfer window if we ignore the Isak situation - in my opinion no. I genuinely thought this was the season we'd add 2 or 3 top end players. Has the overall squad improved? Yes because all the players are better than those who have left or have being upgraded. But the star keeper, the star right centre back and the star right winger has turned in to mild upgrades (apart from Elanga who is a good upgrade). No idea who I was expecting to come in but Trafford is far far superior to what we have. Scalvini is the perfect partner for Botman. All I can assume is the chase to get the Isak replacement and missing out has meant we've had to go down the list sorted by value
Almost identical to the window two years ago - for Elanga read Tonali, for Ramsey read Livramento, for Thiaw read Hall, for Ramsdale read Barnes. We stopped two short of a decent window back then and it's not going to be far off this time around. I don't get what Howe sees in Pope, or has seen in Ramsdale. Thiaw, like Hall, could turn out to be excellent, but, like Hall, isn't going to start for an age. Elanga is a clear upgrade on basically nobody since Almiron left, Ramsey is an improvement on Longstaff. The frustration as you say DPP is hoping but never getting that big star name to just put us on the map. The ones we went for turned us down, but more importantly were a replacement for our current biggest name. For some the frustration is watching what the big teams do, even those finishing 15th, who add to their first XI and upgrade the subs by downgrading the current first XI players. Howe isn't and will never manage that way, but then again two CL finishes and a first trophy in 7 decades says a lot about his method!! Ultimately it's the same issue on repeat - we're two strikers (or an Isak change of heart + 1 striker) from being in a very strong position. Seems so simple yet we seem incapable of sorting it.
