WOW - need I say more ? The whole of the team deserve to be No.1 in this thread...... Fantastic performance / commitment - but - if I am to give my choices : 1. Andrews - what a nuisance he was ( to the Chesterfield defence.) ... beginning to have the effect upfront that we've missed for a long time- and others around him are profiting. 2. Little - played with much passion - and took the penalties very well. 3. Gale - took a big knock early on - but played through the pain... He was literally everywhere.... In the 93rd minute, with Gills leading 4-1, Gale went on a run upfield..when he lost the ball, he bust a gut to sprint back into his position in defence........... I can't believe that Gale will be a Gills player for much longer - let's hope it will be very good money ! special mention to the effort by the scoreboard in the Medway Stand - I think it couldn't understand what was going on - and had a 'premature' moment.... when it depicted 4-1 after Cirino scored his goal. special mention for Cirino - one of the best debut performances I have seen --- how I haven't put him in my top 3 is ridiculous - especially as he is likely to have already won the goal-of-the-season . And for all of the squad who took part - a sincere thankyou...................can I ask for more of the same in the rest of the games this season.

Phenomenal performance from the lads last night. Hard to think that barring Smith & Cirino, the rest of that starting lineup was the same bunch of players we all believed didn't care 8 months ago. What a turnaround in their attitudes and commitments and I believe that's solely down to Ainsworth. We're always in a game now, heads no longer drop and they fight, boy do they fight til the bitter end. Really proud of that performance, every man could easily have for Man of the Match last night. My top 3 could be replaced by anyone frankly. 1. Sam Gale. Deployed to keep Markanday quiet and what a job he did at it. That boy puts his body on the line time and time again for the cause. I echo what @alwaysright has said we will struggle to keep hold of this lad for much longer. 2. Robbie McKenzie. Let's not forget that our own Mr Consistent/Mr Versatile is playing in a position that isn't his best but he kept Will Grigg so quiet last night which is never an easy task. In the last 12 months he's shown a real maturity about his game now and the fact he just gets on and provides a good performance regardless of where on the pitch he's played. Excellent. 3. Josh Andrews. Once again not afraid to get himself in the fight, he left everything out there last night. Probably should have been withdrawn about 10 mins earlier but he battled so hard and eventually wore down the Chesterfield defence to our advantage. Finally getting the player we thought we had bought in January 2024. Armani Little gave a true captain's performance and tucked those penalties away nicely. Ethan Coleman playing with a chunk of his head missing still flying into tackles and going for headers. Andy Smith was also excellent at the back. Congratulations to Lenni on a well taken goal on his EFL debut. The subs all put in a great effort, I was particularly impressed with how Khumbeni won the ball back to set up Wyllie to score, the latter of which I'm also pleased he got off the mark in the league. Wow, just wow, excellent commitment boys. Now top of the table on Saturday. 16 matches unbeaten leaves us as the longest unbeaten run in the 92.
What a great night, terrific performance from every player that set foot on the pitch last night. Picking just 3 out of that is almost impossible but here goes... 1. Josh Andrews a complete nuisance, terrorised their centre backs and gave us a genuine outlet, he may never be a prolific goal scorer but many goals will happen around him, lets hope his fitness issues are now behind him. 2. Robbie MacKenzie - Just a great professional doesn't matter where we play him he is a class act, unflappable last night sat between 2 excellent but inexperienced centre back partners his calmness and influence over them was palpable. 3. Sam Gale - Just gets better and better A word too for Chesterfield who played some excellent football and will win a lot of matches this season.
This is such a hard one to choose from. That was the best performance from us for a very long time. I could easily choose 4-5 players in this top 3. 1. Cirino- What a debut by the young lad. He just looked so energetic and enthusiastic. He did give away a few silly fouls but purely for the attacking appetite he is first place for me. It was close between him and Andrews for me. 2. Andrews- I really hope he can stay fit as he was a real handful for Chesterfield and looked like the player we really needed. If he can add some goals he will be really important for us. 3. Gale- This was a tough one between him Little and McKenzie however Gale was brilliant last night as he always us. More of this Saturday boys! I hope this wasn't just a one off. It was nice to actually enjoy watching the team and wearing the shirt with pride!
What a performance, and virtually the same team as last season, I hope Lennie is OK, reminded me of the young Colombian lent to us by Fulham. Pure magic, then a tackle that put him out for the season. I hope he is OK he and Wyllie paired up very well. Morris put in some class saves, Little ran his heart out, Gayle is now looking so strong and was well pumped up. Lets hope this is not a one off, Home to Vale Saturday and they won 4-1 as well last night, without penalties. No 1 Gillingham FC No 2 Gillingham FC No 3 Gillingham FC Loyal Supporters
I think this is the hardest best player choice I have had as all 16 players were top class and worked so hard. 1, Lenny Cirino what a debt and what a goal the officials missed the handball but he buried the shot and deserved his goal. 2, Josh Andrews ran himself into the ground and is a good footballer not just a big player I put my hands up I thought we should list him but I was so wrong going to be a top player. 3, Sam Gale got hurt early on but ran through the pain and was exceptional again. Could so easily have been Little Coleman McKenzie Williams Nevitt Smith Hutton as they all were brilliant in their efforts.
1. Gale, you did your Nan proud mate. He's here, he's there, he's every f....where. 2. Cirino, new kid on the block and we need to protect him, I don't want another Hurtado on our hands and it's down to our bigger lads to offer him the support he will need. Even Jonny Williams found out last night what it's like to run into a brick wall. We took the kid off at the right time, I would have been left fuming if we hadn't. Great goal and jeez have we been waiting for something like that. 3. Andrews, guess what this guy is my new found love of a player, where you been bro! Mixes it up, get's stuck in, can cause chaos in an opposition defence, everything we've been longing for. I should add, he would have been my number one, but a few moments caught my soft side for the two lads ahead of him, and I couldn't let that pass. For me he's top dog at the moment. Just not enough room to mention everyone, Captain Little leading like a true leader, passion, energy, positive mentally and that yeah let's get at them lads attitude. Crewe up next at home, and they are top as well, don't think I've seen them play on tv this season yet, unless I've forgotten, might have a snoop around on SKY see what I can find out about them. Edit: I forgot to add, need to make more of winning these Hutton throws into the box, especially when Andrews is starting. Chesterfield like Walsall just can't handle them.
