Yeah for sure. I hadn't checked the minutes of the goals tbf just saw the score initially. Hopefully they can get a spirited 1-0 away to keep him in post longer.
I wonder if Martin will manage to wind their fans up even more by talking about winning the second half or something.
Honestly, I think he's in serious danger of being sacked either before or during the first international break. Even if they beat St Mirren they will likely get thumped by Celtic.
The BBC article suggests that the next 6 fixtures are tricky for Martin. I cannot see him being there by the end of September. Two successive dismissals under such dire circumstances will seriously lower Martin's stock. It will be difficult to salvage his reputation if he replicates last season in his new job.
From the BBC article: 'This was in the post, though. Under Martin, Rangers have one way of playing and stout defending isn't a part of it. Not yet at any rate. Caution is thrown to the wind. Everybody is on the front foot. There's little midfield or defensive discipline, none of the cynicism that you need, little of the physical strength and none of the commanding authority. They could have shipped five or six in this game.' That just sums up the problem with Martins teams. Strange that he doesn't seem self aware enough to work on those things that will ultimately lead him to fail every job he gets.
I think he will be gone within a month. Surely the Gers bosses will just look and say “Yep we screwed up”. It is plain that his ‘Philosophy’ just won’t work on a football field. Possession doesn’t win games, scoring goals and conceding less does. I may though tune in to this next game, as suicideball is so much more entertaining when your team isn’t doing it.
The problem with Martin is that he can obviously nail the interviews, outlines his vision and what is going to happen in his head. The reality is he's living in a dreamland and it all goes tits up when the players take to the field because he simply cannot accept he needs to adapt his style and his teams get pressed into making stupid errors at the back or get hit on the break when they lose the ball because everyone is inside the opponents half. He really does think he's the UK Pep and it's going to cost him his managerial career if he doesn't make changes.
Will Still is like the anti-Martin. It is early days, but chooses a formation not on his philosophy, but on the players available. He will also sacrifice pretty football to try and win a game. Didn't we have 4 forwards on against Wrexham towards the end? Lol I know two defenders got the goals, but it was all out. Same v Ipswich, didn't sit on the point and tried to win it with his subs.
Oh dear oh dear. Russell Martin "we didn't react well to the two goals as a club" - a dig at the fans? | FollowFollow.com
He’s gonna struggle to get another job after this one! After such a humbling time with us in the Prem he really should’ve took his time to learn from his lessons, seems like he’s doubled down and shot both his feet off in the process
I'll add two more comments from that same article; " In his brief time in charge, Martin has taken a weak defence, signed loads of players and has somehow made it weaker." "Martin's refusal to adapt while manager of Southampton does not augur well." I'm not particularly enjoying Martin's humiliation but I did expect it when his appointment was announced. You can't expect to get away with the gibberish that he spoke here, in Glasgow. They, not unreasonably, expect to win every game except the Old Firm and even then, losing badly against Celtic can decide a Rangers manager's future. Martin's appointment has come at a time when the Rangers team is one of the weakest they've had for years and as we all know, he is not good at getting the best from a weak team. From our point of view though, we get regularly name dropped in Ranger's match reports which, for some obscure reason makes me feel proud.
Ah, love the bloke. Just keeps giving. Really looking forward to noon Sunday. Come on the Scottish Saints.
More alarming for Martin than last nights` result is the fact that he`s 4 points behind Celtic after 2 league games. St Mirren away is a tough game, and it`s a must win already.
