Why do we give away stupid free kicks when their player is under pressure to retain the ball?

We can’t deal with Ipswich’s pressing atm. Doesn’t help we have nothing upfront so need to play through the middle where they can just pick us off

 

Charles passing to Fernandes who had two men breathing down his neck sums up our passing so far.

 

He’s very flat footed and laboured until it’s time to sprint…

 

That would solve the Quarshie issue. But it doesn't solve the bigger issue of the formation. Three at the back will never work without two decent WBs. I do get concerned by any manager who doesn't understand that.

 

Not convinced by this system, it seems that Still has not learnt from the Wrexham game

 

Interesting to see how he adapts. Will he just chuck all the forwards on like last week?

 

Amazing isn't it, 5 at the back looking every bit as bad as it has every time Saints have tried it over the last decade, we are awful the vast majority of the time we try it.

Lends us nothing extra in terms of defensive strength and it guts our midfield capability to achieve it.

 

If we win 2-1 again I won't complain.

 

On a more positive note Jay Robinson looks like our best player so far by a country mile.

Yeah, I’m struggling to get my head around this too - one of the strongest sides in the division playing 3 CBs and 2 holding midfielders.

The players we have in those positions we should have more than enough to play 4 at the back, with a very fluid 3 behind the striker..

I’d get it if we were still in the prem.

 

I think we’re okay. If we can cut out the daft errors, when we play through their press we’re threatening them. Long way to go.

 

I think we are playing pretty well. We definitely need to work out how to be more solid defensively, but that will come.
