A disappointing 1-1 draw at Walsall for Charlton doesnât appear to have dampened spirits in the camp, and why should it!? Article below has some quotes from Chris Powell and the positive mentality his players appear to have speaks volumes for the clubs aspirations this season. http://sportales.com/sports/winning-mentality-shining-through-for-charlton-still/
Positive is the word to describe us this season - after the last five years of utter dross it is unbelievably refreshing. Powell has put together a side full not only of very good footballers but also one that does not give up and that fights for each other. I haven't been this happy to be a Charlton fan for a very long time. Are you turning on him already? Charlton fans will argue about Phil Parkinson for ever and a day and not be able to reach a consensus. Probably best not to mention him on here
Very positive article - clearly demonstrates the new mindset. Just seen the highlights of the game on the BBC website. Macken looked offside even from behind the goal and the pictures confirm it but my life, that penalty. If the bloke had caught it, it couldn't have been more stonewall - referee definitely not in the right position to see it, but the lino should have had the flag straight up. Pitiful. They didn't show the trip (?) on Waggy about 90 seconds earlier - was it a penalty anyone? Looked very much like it live.
I'm afraid the warranty on this particular model expired some time ago. It was a reconditioned model which had several faults, some of which may be manifesting themselves now. Our only recommendation is that you try and get rid of the article to some unsuspecting mug before it breaks down completely. Unfortunately, we do not accept returns, especially of this particular model. Thank you for shopping at The Valley Seconds Shop.
Haven't seen the highlights, only going on how I felt at the match Handball yes a penalty, or so it seemed. Macken certainly looked offside from the header/facer Something tells me Waggy will never get that sort of decision, and I'm inclined not to believe that it was a penalty. I was the wrong side of the away end to make the call.
Thats what frustrates me about Waggy, he goes down so easily - whether he is diving or just incredibly lightweight is debatable (though I do hate his habit of curling up like a woodlouse every time he goes to the ground/limping for about 10 seconds when he stands up).
Somewhat contradictory viewpoints here:- CP's viewpoint: "A point is very favourable. Of course we came here trying to get three points but you have to be careful away." CP's opinion of the players's viewpoint: "My players were desperate to get the win so much that I think they thought they were losing 1-0 not 1-1." My assessment was that the latter is more accurate. We weren't at all "careful away". By trying to attack most of the game, and especially for the last half hour, we allowed Walsall as many scoring chances as we gained ourselves. Was this wrong? I think not. It is better for our points total to win one and lose one than to draw two. I don't hold with this "it's a point gained" stuff. Single points won't get you promoted. Look at Huddersfield. Staying undefeated doesn't mean zilch if you don't get enough wins. It was disappointing not to beat a team in the bottom four. But these things happen and it was a cracking game of football in which Walsall thoroughly deserved their point. I was more pleased by what CP alleged was the players' attitude, to go all out for a win. The correct response is not to change that attitude and try to hang on to a point, but to work in training to improve our play so we attack and defend better (and I would say our present need is to get the centre midfield more involved instead of playing everything through the wings. We have been lacking in that respect since Stephens was injured).
We did seem to take an excessive number of long throws in the game, I'm not sure these Stoke tactics work for us?
That's a bit impatient, he nearly got our 09/10 squad promoted and the team was in 5th on his departure last season when many of the better players had been sold and he wasn't given funds to bring in adequate replacements. You need to give him more time and ensure that the board backs him with funds for new players, something the new board didn't when they came in.
